WikiWorkshop Hooghly is an one day workshop for the aspirant new contributors from the suburban, will be held for the first time in the Hooghly district of West Bengal on 9th February 2020. Wikipedia is an Internet-based, multilingual free encyclopedia. This multilingual project of Wikipedia is currently in operation in about seven languages of the Indian subcontinent, including about 25 languages in the world, one of which is Bangla. Currently, Wikipedia is the fifth most popular website in the world. Here we will discuss Wikipedia editing and how text and images are used and will provide basic knowledge of other projects of Wikimedia.

WikiWorkshop Hooghly, a full-day workshop has been conducted for the aspirants Wikipedians in Angel Land School, Begumpur, Hooghly, on 9th February 2020. This workshop witnessed 24 participants, among them 8 participants were women and all were attending Wikipedia Workshop for the first time. Participants of this workshop have come from different walks of life and profession, among them, teachers, social activists, students and professors were there.

The workshop started with a Welcome note from the co-ordinator Tarun Samanta. After the introduction of the participants, Arindam Maitra talked about an Introduction on Wikipedia and Wikipedia movement and also on free knowledge movement around the globe. The next session was dedicated for New user ID creation for Wikipedia and the session was conducted under the guidance of two most experienced Wikipedians, Arindam Maitra and Pinakpani followed by a session 'How to Edit Wikipedia'.

Soon after, breakfast has been served to the participants along with tea.

After the break, Arindam Maitra took a one-hour session on 'Hands-on Edit', where he showed the participants, how to edit with conviction in a live environment.

The next session was on Wikimedia Commons, Indrajit Das gave a brief description of Introduction to Creative Commons and Video Wiki along with with a presentation slides.

After covering the first five sessions, a lunch break was taken. Briyani was served for the lunch.

Post lunch session was divided into two sections, where a section of participants interested in advance editing and also interested in learning Wikisource and Wikidata remain in the classroom and others would join Heritage Photowalk. The concept of heritage walk was to identify the participants interested in photography and also photo document the local heritages of Begumpur as well. It kept in mind that the heritage walk would help them to understand 'Hands-on Photo upload' in Commons and also make the session more interesting and interactive. Here, Arindam Maitra taught them to advance Wikipedia Editing and overview of Wikisource and Wikidata. And Indrajit Das led the Heritage Walk along with 12 participants. After one hour photowalk he came back to the venue and joined the workshop. When all the participants again fully composed in the classroom, Arindam Maitra already finished up his session. In the next session, Indrajit Das showed them 'How to Upload in Commons' with a presentation followed by hands-on activities.

The workshop was almost reached at the end after this and half an hour time slot was allotted for the question-answer session and feedback. During the question-answer session, on behalf of Wikipedia Arindam Maitra, Tarun Samanta, শরদিন্দু ভট্টাচার্য্য and Indrajit Das tried their level best to satisfy participants with best answers.

The entire Workshop was funded and supported by the West Bengal Wikimedians User group. Arrangements were made to give everyone a certificate and it has been given to each participant as a token of appreciation and encouragement. After which it was time to say goodbye to each other.
