Wikipedia editing basics

edit

In this step, the students learn the basics of editing Wikipedia. The materials included in this folder are booklets and guides on how to create and edit Wikipedia pages. Moreover, it includes guidance on how Wikipedia can be used as a teaching tool. It is important to note that when teaching students how to work with Wikipedia, it is helpful to have some knowledge of how it works yourself. Thus we recommend that you immerse yourself in the process beforehand. Having gained some knowledge yourself, you will be better equipped to confidently dive into the content with your students and discover all that the course has to offer.

Employees of Wikimedia Foundation Groups are most often excited to share their knowledge of and interest in Wikipedia. It is helpful to note that the level of support available will differ depending on the language you write in. For example, a commonly spoken language such as English will have more people working on its Wikipedia than a smaller language such as Welsh. Feel free to reach out to your local Wikimedia Affiliate Group for help and support. Working with Wikipedia
