Background

edit
  • Béria Lima: Founding board member of Wikimedia Portugal, member of Wikimedia Argentina.
  • Kounila Keo:she is new to Wikipedia, but she believes that spirit of wikipedia can be spread in Cambodia and Southeast Asia if there are more mentorship programs among women. In her country and southeast asia, there are more female participants in tech events even than men. This means, there is a chance to increase the participation from women.
  • Anja Ebersbach:
  • Marta Dias: She was a user of es.wiki and last year she meet some members of WMAR and them became member. She is interested in oral history and she believes there is a close relation between Wikipedia and Oral history. She also find difficult to attract new users because the documentation is too complicated to a new user.
  • Susana Correa: She can speak about what is happening with old women and related problems. She try to analyses the process of wikipedia and new user experince and partly based it in her own experience. She thinks that 1. She found a complete lack of information about what is Wikipedia and how is works and 2. And when there is, the motivation who drive those people. She works about the relation between elder and technology and what is the relationship with Wikipedia. She is a Wikipedia user since 2006.
  • Lila Pagola: Board member of Wikimedia Argentina, user of wikipedia for several years, and a professor. As part of her profession she uses Wikipedia in class with her students. She edits in articles related to art and history. When she began editing, there were almost nothing related to Art and Art History in WP. There are 4 women in WMAR board (the biggest amount of women in a board of Chapter - as for Dec 2011), who are very participative, but WMAR doesn't have info about Argentinian users in es.wiki.
  • Teresa Sempere: Is just an user of wikipedia. She is interested in the relation between tech and other free softwares cultures. Many users edit wikipedia and don't see the philosophy behind it. She realizing that she knows some skills that are unique in some ways and she could use in Wikipedia and she plan to do so.
  • Al Cano: Is an editor of Wikipedia since 2006 and started doing small edits in topics related with her studies. Due her lack of time she can't edit as much as she wanted. She says that due the crisis in Spain the time spend to work and take care of families to a girl is too big an d that is - in her opinion - one of the reasons why we don't have many female edits. When she started her PhD in 2007 she started editing more about her subject of research in order to encourage the teachers about the use of Wikipedia in class. She found the hierarchy chain too problematic, because of the mentality "we don't give knowledge, we sell it"
  • Laura Hale: Is a editor since February 2011, and before that she hated Wikipedia before that. She is a board member of WMAU since October 2011. She don't believe there is too much female editors from Australia. Unfortunally she find lots of problems with en.wiki because of the American centric of this wiki. She also found problems with people who believe Wikipedia editors are payed to edit. She works with Female Sports reports and is now more focous in increase the female contributions in WikiNews, Wikiverstiy and Wikibooks due the problems of English Wikipedia. In Australia only 26% of colleges students are woman. WMAU also have a partnership with Para Olympics Committee of Australia.
  • Netha Hussain: In india there are several editors of en.wiki and several editors from the 17 wikipedias in indian languages. The number of contributiors to the 17 projects are still small than the numbers of editors from india from en.wiki. in WCI out of more than 700 participants only 65 were woman, and only 10 had accounts on Wikipedia. They are organizing Edit-a-thon to WikiWomen History Month and they don't have so many editor even them. She believes the reason is because Indian women is more engaged in house keeping activities and some their paid jobs and there are very few women involved in Technology and Open source. She works with small wikis from Indian.
  • Andrea: She saw a lot of articles in es.wiki who depromote woman and she is very worried about it, despite the fact is not so difficult because of the politics of Argentina. She also believes that the aggressive environment of Wikipedia is not encouraging to women since they tend to avoid confrontation.
  • Christina Haralonava: talked about a conference 2 weeks ago and got very socked by knowing that the contribute sharing were fair. That what drove her to editing.
