edit- Status update on in-progress articles from each journal
- Some articles (e.g. A survey on Internet Protocol version 4 and Loveday, 1458) are stuck at “waiting for editorial board members to decide if it should be published or not”
- What items to prioritize in a 2023 budget?
- 2022 (last year) budget
- 2023 Initial request & budget
- 2023 Amount approved & budget
- 2023 Feedback comments
- When to begin enforcing editorial board inactivity policy?
Meeting Notes
editNotes (First Meeting)
editArticle status update WikiJournal of Medicine (Roger Watson)
- RW circulates an update periodically (at least monthly)
- 10 articles remain on list
- One (Androgen backdoor pathway) – probably ready for processing
- Two others (Laurus nobilis & Intestinal parasitic infections) – RW has managed to confirm with handling editors that they are processing these
- 1 manuscript (Inflammatory response in Plasmodium infected patients) remains without a handling editor
- Remaining manuscripts still - seeking reviewers
- RW has asked technical helpers if all WJMed pre-prints in process be added to the tracking list
Article status update WikiJSci (Thomas Shafee)
- A Survey on Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) - final process of editorial board decision
- The effect of local millet drink (Kunu) on the testis and epididymis of adult male wistar rats - authors need to be recontacted to update interpretation caveats
Budget planning
- Ellen & Andrew N. happy to be involved
- Start with reducing all variable items to ⅓ then decide what can be dropped or merged (especially staffing activities may need merging)
- Suggest that the budget item for event attendance is flexible and available for other workshops/events/symposia etc, not just Wikimania.
- Peter Nkashi Agan’s presentation at Wikimania from this year was valuable, with multiple expressions of interest from attendees, as well as learning opportunity from others’ presentations
- A major item from last year (Open Journal Systems Back end integration) was not actioned due to lack of project management time, so would be a key activity of any paid staffing
Implementation of editorial board inactivity policy
- Recommendation to start 12 month timer at beginning 2023 (i.e. implementation of policy in january, not actioning editor removal until end of 2023)
- That way everyone has ‘fair warning’
- Emails out to editorial board members should give explicit suggestions for potential contributions that can be made, i.e. Support potential for re-connection with WikiJournal activities rather than alienate
- Probably the duty of the EiC of each journal
Andrew N. & Ellen will be meeting with Wikimedian in Residence at Uni Edinburgh
- Meeting likely early 2023
- Multiple useful potential opportunities for collaboration
- WiR already has knowledge of which academics have interest in wiki activity
Notes (Second Meeting)
editReminder that in some cultures, some authors have only single name (not firstname + surname), so can’t assume that single name is an error
WikiJSci update
- Non-canonical base-pairing finished revision
- One reviewer suggested to reject, another suggested to tentative accept
WikiJHum update (by Andrew)
- No update for Loveday, 1458
- Authors for two papers (OpenSpeaks: Open Toolkit for Multimedia Documentation of Indigenous Languages and DARK REFLECTIONS: Rossetti’s Ecce Ancilla Domini! and Manet’s Olympia) would like to continue with their revisions
Wiki Conference or Wikimania - are there other useful conferences to flag?
- EduWiki Conference 2023 (Belgrade, Serbia)
- Kelee to message to All Boards and Tech editors to see who is interested in possibly attending (what is the funding max for this? Flights + accommodation + any conference fee)
- Will require signing up to Wiki&Education user group
Inactivity policy
- Begin the 12-month clock starting from January 2023, or check for any activity within the past 12-months now?
- Who enforces this policy?
Communicate clearly in application that when they become an editor, the expectation is that they will immediately begin assisting with the submission review process Improving editorial board onboarding process Journal coordinator position
- Need to hire in-house within the journal since they are more familiar with the process
- Paid, probably in the form of stipend
- Will do an email callout to each journal for interest
