Satellite events

Wiki Indaba Conference 2024 will be held from October 4–6, 2024, in Johannesburg, South Africa, and will mark the 10th anniversary of the Wiki Indaba Conference. The main theme of the conference is !ke e: /xarra //ke - United in diversity.

Important dates

  • Call for submissions opens: 05 June 2024
  • Call for submissions ends: 30 June 2024
  • Review of submissions: July 2024
  • Notification of acceptance or declination of submissions: TBC

Session types

Consider submitting a proposal for any of the following session types

Type Description Suggested Length
Poster Presentation of information on a paper poster that participants may view 7 - 10 minutes
Lightning talk Brief presentation lasting only a few minutes 7 - 10 minutes
Lecture Lecture/presentation on any topic within the tracks covered by the conference 30 minutes
Workshop Facilitated group-wide tutorial and/or working session on a pre-selected topic 60 minutes
Panel Facilitated discussion among three or more on a pre-selected topic 45 - 60 minutes
Roundtable Group-wide discussion on a pre-selected topic 60 - 75 minutes

Session tracks

You can submit a proposal (in English or French) for any of the following tracks

  • Sister Projects Equity, Inclusion, and Community Health/Initiatives
  • Research GLAM, Heritage, and Culture
  • Research , Education & Technology
  • Sister Projects Movement Governance (Includes Legal, Advocacy & Risks)

Submit your session proposal

Please make sure you are logged in before you submit your proposal

  • Step 1: Insert the title of your proposal in the text entry box below.
  • Step 2: Click on the "Add new proposal" button to create a new application form.
  • Step 3: Fill in the application form and save the page to submit your proposal.

Note: By submitting a proposal, you must agree that:

  • Your proposal's abstract and any slides associated with it will be released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike Licence 3.0; and
  • if accepted, the session will be broadcast and/or recorded and made available in audio and/or visual form under the aforesaid licence.

If you prefer not to be filmed during your session, please indicate it as a special requirement while submitting your proposal.

Proposal review process

Proposals will be reviewed by the Programme Committee.

Each submission will be rated on a variety of factors including the likely level of impact and expected outcomes; expected community interest; and how well-connected the submission is to the theme or a focus area. Committee scores are averaged, and the top portion of submissions will be accepted as they fit into the schedule.

If there are multiple similar submissions on the same topic, the program committee may suggest combining these submissions

You will be notified about the Programme Committee's decision regarding your submission via email.
