Description :

Wikimedia communities around Africa and specifically from East Africa share most of the common stories around success stories and challenges facing them in regard to contributing to WMF projects. In 2019, East African communities did meet twice (In Tanzania for the East Africa Wiki Training) and later in Uganda (for the Movement Strategy Wiki Summit). In these two and more other online meetups such as Wikimania pre-conference discussions, joint Wikimania scholarship application discussions and other opportunities that these communities got a chance to meet, they expressed their concern and the need for the collaboration amongst these communities in various areas including capacity building, leadership, funding for unrepresented communities and the need for discussion on forming Regional Hub. During Wikimania there were a session for the East African community that talked about the implementation of the commitments that these communities agreed to fulfill when they met at Kampala Uganda in 2019. Wikiindaba too is good platform for these communities to have some time to discuss the future of African Wiki communities, brainstorming the possible solution to most of the common challenges facing them and sharing the success stories so as some communities can learn from from the those communities that are at good standing in terms of capacity to implement WMF projects. Also this is a great chance for the these Wikicommunities to connect dots on what was discussed during Wikimania and its continuation in terms of awareness and implementation of various Wiki projects in the region:
