Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)

Over the last few years, Wikimedia Deutschland and other affiliates have begun a conversations on partnerships inside and outside the movement, taking place at the Wikimedia Conference or Wikimania. As a result of different meetings and workshops, a group of Wikimedia affiliates will publish a statement on the relevance of partnerships for the movement in late January 2018. We would like to host a roundtable discussion at WikiIndaba to continue the discussion on a particular aspect of partnerships: collaborations between affiliates within the movement. The partnerships statement provides a starting point for this discussion, but the goal of this roundtable discussion is to open up this discussion to more people in the movement and gather further input on this topic. We will be looking for concrete ideas and suggestions on how to improve collaboration in the movement and which strategic direction to take when working as partners. We would like to particularly engage WikiIndaba participants from African affiliates in this conversation in order to increase the diversity of views in this conversation, which we will continue at different conferences as well as online throughout 2018.

What will attendees take away from this session?

Participants will walk away from this session with a strengthened awareness of building strong partnerships within the movement, motivation to engage in better cross-affiliate collaboration and new ideas on how to implement such partnerships.
