Event Name edit

WikiIndaba Conference 2018

My Input edit

Contributed at the conference in various capacities such as;

  • AffCom member - answered a few questions as to how to become a user group.
  • Developer via the AWMD project - presentation with Felix Nartey on how to grow developers from the continent (Africa) to contribute to the Wikimedia movement and how the project has been doing so far!
  • Shared experience with others around my activities in the Wikimedia movement.
  • Asked questions in breakout sessions and take down notes. Also, facilitated some questions.
  • Giving recommendations and comments around topics discussed in breakout sessions.
  • Participated in the scholarship committee to help make decisions to select scholarship recipients for the conference.
  • Had a chat (meeting) with Florence (Anthere) and Stephane on how we can help in the development of WikiFundi, which ever help we can offer and help in getting developers around the project.
  • Helped others in facilitating their presentations (making it go smoothly) so participants can understand. Example Eugene's presentation, I had to handle the project tor :).

Participant Connections edit

Was opportune to meet new faces at the Wiki Indaba 2018 conference and will try my best to give a few names;

  • Stephane from Switzerland of Kiwix.
  • Organizing Team of Tunisia (Emna, Zeineb, Habib, Yamen, etc).
  • Wikimedian from Mali.
  • Alex Stinson of WMF (GLAM strategist), Jifar WMF (Grants Officer).
  • Many more, will update this list and make it nicer with time.

In addition to the new faces, those I met were the second time (from Wiki Indaba 2017 in Ghana).

Outcome edit

Wiki Indaba 2018 outcome was wonderful! Apart from meeting new Wikimedians, one of the most important outcome of this conference to me is the knowledge gathered and connections created before, during and a little after the event. These knowledge and connections are helping me grow to be able to support other Wikimedia communities around Africa and the world at large.
