Abstract:

Wikipedias alone cannot fully describe the world: notability and formats require other approaches to knowledge sharing. Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons have significant impacts beyond Wikipedias, storing structured knowledge and media files respectively. In this workshop, we will explore how contributions to different wikis complement and build on each other to share knowledge, particularly in regions where traditional notability can be difficult to demonstrate. Examples of statues, museums, telescopes, and places that are currently only covered on Wikidata and Commons will be shown, as will ways of working simultaneously across all three projects to describe notable topics, along with useful relevant tools and best-practice tips.

Audience : basic to medium
Mode: Hybrid
Special requirements: This session will aim to be fully hybrid, with online participants equally able to participate. Microphones/projection/wired internet connection in the room would be good.
How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region?

This partly follows up from last year's enwiki workshops (watch the recording!), and continues discussions around best practices with notability and improving coverage African topics on the Wikimedia projects
