| Abstract:
On the tenth anniversary of the Wiki Indaba Conference 2024, themed "United in Diversity," I am delighted to share the participatory experience of Wikimedians in the Maghreb region and diaspora, which aims to address the pressing issue of climate change and its consequences through Wikimedia projects in the Maghreb. This program brings together Wikimedians from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and Mauritania to address climate change through collaborative Wikimedia projects. The Maghreb faces severe climate challenges, including desertification and drought. Our campaign aims to increase active users in the region, encouraging contributions in languages such as Arabic, Moroccan Derja, Tachelhit, Shawiya, and Kabyle. We have conducted workshops, edit-a-thons, conferences, and webinars to engage new and existing users. The campaign exemplifies the power of unity in diversity, enhancing global access to scientific data and technology, and fostering collaboration for a sustainable future. |

| How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region?
The session will assist the communities in the region by promoting and highlighting human knowledge about climate change consequences through Wikimedia projects and how using workshops and building capacity to protect cultural and linguistic heritage, enhances encouraging collaboration among the Wikimedia movement, scientists, climate change actors, and Indigenous peoples. also Empowering local communities, raising global awareness of regional challenges, and forging community links. | |||
