Abstract:
The life cycle of a community of volunteers depends on their ability to find new inspiration each time. The community of Wikipedians in Cameroon, after more than six years of existence, faces the challenge of renewing the flame of volunteerism. In addition to contribution activities, participation in international campaigns and attendance at various international meetings, new strategies need to be found to keep people involved in this non-paying movement and, above all, to help the community grow in an environment completely devoid of volunteer practices in the interests of the country. This is the challenge that the Wikimedians of Cameroon User Group has set itself since 2022, overcoming several challenges and determined to keep the flame of the Wikimedians volunteer burning. This has been achieved through innovative activities and, above all, the decentralisation of almost all its activities. A lesson in resilience and bouncing back for other communities looking for a new lease of life. |
