The intended outcome of this lightning talk is to inspire and inform the audience about effective strategies for recruiting volunteers to contribute to small language Wikipedias. Specifically, the talk aims to:

  1. Raise Awareness: Highlight the challenges faced by small language Wikipedias, such as poor-quality content due to reliance on bots and non-native speakers.
  2. Share Strategies: Present a proven recruitment strategy using Central Notice banners on large-language Wikipedia pages to attract native speakers to become editors for small-language Wikipedias.
  3. Encourage Participation: Motivate audience members, especially those involved in Wikimedia projects, to adopt and implement similar recruitment methods to improve the quality and accessibility of content in small language Wikipedias.
  4. Foster Collaboration: Encourage collaboration between large and small language Wikipedia communities to support the growth and development of small language Wikipedias.
  5. Enhance Content Quality: Ultimately, the goal is to increase the number of native speakers contributing to small language Wikipedias, thereby improving the quality, credibility, and accessibility of information available in these languages.
