| Abstract:
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the period between 2022 and 2032 as the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022-2032), to draw global attention to the critical situation of many Indigenous languages which are going extinct. This session is aimed at creating awareness of the critical state of many African languages and inspiring African wikimedia contributors to join the decade of action for Indigenous languages. The session will explore how Wikimedia ecosystems, such as Wikipedia, wiki data, and Wikimedia Commons can be utilized for Indigenous language documentation, education, and cultural preservation. |

| How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region?

Inspire efforts to document and preserve Indigenous languages on Wikimedia platforms, ensuring their digital presence and accessibility. 3.
