Abstract: Wikimedians are playing an important role through efforts to share knowledge in Indigenous, minoritized, or low-resource languages. Speakers of these languages have the opportunity to bridge the knowledge the gap by creating content especially important and culturally relevant for their language communities, which are frequently on the margins of digital rights-related discussions and agenda setting. In this case, this session will hear from three speakers of African languages who will share their experience assessing the needs of the Igbo, Twi, and Dagbani language communities in relation to digital security and safety. Their work was a part of a participatory research project that explored the digital security challenges and needs for 18 language communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The research was led by trusted speakers from the same language communities included in the project, which allowed for important access and insight to the unique context facing their communities. In addition, during the session they will share their perspectives on how Wikimedian communities in Nigeria and Ghana can play an important role in raising awareness and taking concrete steps to make their language communities safer and more secure online. Following their summaries, we will open the floor to hear other perspectives about the intersection of language and digital security and safety.			Level of advancement:
