We, the Wikimedia Community User Group South Sudan, are excited to apply for a microgrant from WikiIndaba to support our local in-person events and community meet-ups in conjunction with the WikiIndaba conference scheduled for November 3-5, 2023, in Agadir, Morocco. Our aim is to facilitate active participation in the conference for our members who cannot attend in person, and to strengthen the Wikimedia community in South Sudan.
Planned Activities:
- Local Meet-up: We plan to organize a local meet-up in Juba, South Sudan, during the WikiIndaba conference dates. This event will serve as a hub for our members to virtually participate in live-streamed and pre-recorded conference sessions.
- Internet Connectivity: To ensure a seamless virtual experience, we will cover internet connection fees and provide data vouchers to attendees at the local meet-up venue.
- Venue Rental: We will rent a suitable venue for our local meet-up, equipped with a projector and necessary audio-visual equipment for broadcasting conference sessions.
- Transportation: To encourage attendance, we will allocate a portion of the grant for small transportation costs to assist attendees in reaching the meet-up venue.
- Certificates and Swag: We plan to provide certificates of attendance for participants and printed conference swag/merchandise to enhance the sense of belonging to the Wikimedia community.
- Snacks: To create a comfortable and collaborative atmosphere, we will provide snacks and refreshments during the meet-up.

The estimated number of participants that the funding will support is approximately 30-40 attendees at the local meet-up. Additionally, the grant will indirectly benefit a wider audience of South Sudanese Wikimedians who will participate virtually in the WikiIndaba conference sessions.
