Description edit

Please add description of the request, with all the necessary details.

We, the Wikimedia Community User Group For Refugees are excited to apply for a microgrant from WikiIndaba to support our local in-person events and community meet-ups in conjunction with the WikiIndaba conference scheduled for November 3-5, 2023, in Agadir, Morocco. Our aim is to facilitate active participation in the conference for our members who cannot attend in person.

Planned Activities:

  1. Local Meet-up: We plan to organize a local meet-up in Imvepi Refugee Camp, Uganda, during the WikiIndaba conference dates. This event will serve as a hub for our members to virtually participate in live-streamed and pre-recorded conference sessions.
  2. Venue Rental: We will rent a suitable venue for our local meet-up, equipped with a projector and necessary audio-visual equipment for broadcasting conference sessions.
  3. Internet Connectivity: To ensure a seamless virtual experience, we will cover internet connection fees and provide data vouchers to attendees at the local meet-up venue.
  4. Transportation: To encourage attendance, we will allocate a portion of the grant for small transportation costs to assist attendees in reaching the meet-up venue.
  5. Snacks: To create a comfortable and collaborative atmosphere, we will provide snacks and refreshments during the meet-up.

Jury decision edit

Dear George Levi and colleagues from Wikimedia Community User Group For Refugees,

We are sincerely grateful for the time and effort you invested in applying for a micro-grant for WikiIndaba 2023. Your interest in contributing to this event is highly appreciated.

Unfortunately, we have to inform you that your application was not selected for the micro-grant. We received an overwhelming number of quality applications (77 applications for only 7 grants), which made the decision process extremely challenging. Given the constraints, our focus has been on projects from underrepresented communities or groups that lack on-site representation at the conference. The team decided therefore to provide the grants only to countries where there are no user groups at the moment.

Though your application was not selected, we greatly value your interest in WikiIndaba 2023. To stay engaged and catch all the latest updates, we invite you to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and instagram. Additionally, we encourage you to subscribe to our YouTube channel, where we'll be sharing conference highlights and key sessions. We also suggest reaching out to your group members who will be participating in the conference, so they can share experiences and learnings with you.

Best regards,
