WikiIndaba is an annual events that host Wikimedian editors all over the world and this year event is scheduled to hold at Agadir in Morocco from 3rd to 5th of November, 2023.

Open Future Africa is a volunteer-based organisation promoting free and open knowledge in Africa, aligning its campaigns and programs with the African Union Agenda 2063: “The Africa We Want”. We are promoting open future activities and policies in Africa through mission-aligned campaigns, programs and initiatives. Our passion lies in addressing the widespread shortage of soft skill-set in Africa.

Open Future Africa is hereby proposing to host a local in person event where enthusiastic and committed wikimedian editor will come together to create content, share knowledge and contribute to the wikimedia encyclopedia as well as participating in the 2023 WikiIndaba annual event.

The request is submitted by a member of Open Future Africa. She is an experienced Wikimedian editor and as served as a one time executive of the Fan Club, University of Ilorin, Nigeria. She has worked hand with other experienced Wikimedian to organize events that were recorded as a success.

The people involved includes James Popoola is a trainer and he served as the President of the Unilorin Fanclub under the 2021/2022 administration.

Major Lyte is an experienced wikimedian who has organized and trained over 200 new editors, he has also worked as a co-organizer and he has been able to successfully handle virtual trainings for new editors.

The group is a yet to be affiliated user group.

The funding for the event will be sent to an individual account.

Outcome

For the outcomes, we are targeting active available members of 15 to participate in this year WikiIndaba. The funding will go a long way to support the local event and will enhance the full contributions of the participants to networking, contributing and participating in the event.

Dear MarteeDave and colleagues from Open Future African Team,

We are sincerely grateful for the time and effort you invested in applying for a micro-grant for WikiIndaba 2023. Your interest in contributing to this event is highly appreciated.

Unfortunately, we have to inform you that your application was not selected for the micro-grant. We received an overwhelming number of quality applications (77 applications for only 7 grants), which made the decision process extremely challenging. Given the constraints, our focus has been on projects from underrepresented communities or groups that lack on-site representation at the conference. The team decided therefore to provide the grants only to countries where there are no user groups at the moment.

Though your application was not selected, we greatly value your interest in WikiIndaba 2023.
