Kenya’s gender gap index score stood at 0.73 in 2022, meaning that females were around 27 percent less likely to have the same opportunities as males. Stronger gender disparities were mostly measured in the category of Political Empowerment By improving the credibility and reliability of the articles on gender disparities in Kenya, we hope to provide information resources that will fast-track gender equality initiatives and will further promote equal enjoyment of social amenities, opportunities, resources and rewards by all genders. By improving the credibility and reliability of the content on the extent of gender disparity in Kenya, we hope to accelerate gender equality initiatives and promote equal enjoyment of social amenities, opportunities, resources and rewards by all genders.

How is this project relevant to credibility and Wikipedia?

The project seeks to correct misinformation and disinformation, thereby enhancing the integrity of Wikipedia articles on gender disparities in Kenya. With the help of Wikimedia User group Kenya, the event will seek to critique any false beliefs that may be associated with and the use of Wikipedia as a source of information. Accessibility to such freely available articles will provide researchers with the accurate, current, credible and objective information they seek; this we hope will empower them to conduct impactful research that will address gender inequalities in education, health, employment and politics. The objective is to ensure that the Wikimedia User Group Kenya and new editors are able to interact with digital media critically, and have the capacity to differentiate between reputable and relevant information from false, inaccurate and irrelevant information. This will be beneficial to us as a user Group as we are still a growing community.

What is the ultimate impact of this project?

This project seeks to impact the quality of research on gender disparity and inequality, and in turn aim for renewed vigor to drastically address systemic and underlying barriers that hold women and girls back, and accelerate action to redress current disparities and close the gender gaps.
