WikiCred/2022 CFP/Templates Cascading Style Sheets

A strategic planned idea to create Wikimedia Template Cascading Styles Sheets (.CSS) and Purpose Templates [[]]in four Hausa Wiki Projects that is in Hausa Wikipedia, Hausa Wikitionary, Hausa Wikiqoute and a relevant page of Wikimedia Commons/ha [1] which is not yet created, and is related to Hausa projects. The idea is to create a conducive main page view for Hausa Community and to create different templates that will collects data and perform programming tasks like todays featured article, picture of the day, sound of the day and collects statistics. Moreover, to create templates that will be used for tagging pages for Wikimedia progression, like articles needing citations, tagging templates, deletion, improvements templates and lots more. A template that will be used in relevant pages especially in Main Pages, These templates will be used for boilerplate messages delivery, standardization, warnings /notices, infoboxes, navigational boxes, and other similar purposes for tagging. Templates parameters and templates documentation will be created in Wiki Code text within templates parameters, when substituted it will generate the actual output as a visual communication method to what is need to be done or something similar design to serve a purpose, depending on the purpose of the templates. PLAN 20 important Templates will be created in each of the four Hausa Wiki Projects to perform its designated task in making the main pages look awesome, updated and functional. Other 20 templates will be created to serve boilerplate messages delivery, standardization, warnings /notices, infoboxes, navigational boxes, and other similar purposes for tagging and tasks. The templates will be created containing a desired wikitext in Hausa language, also having some programming capacities to customize values known as parameters , calculation and branching will be perform using parser functions, and link or access to wiki-specific variables (magic words), things such as dates, times, and page names. The templates will also contain tags which will identify which parts of the wiki text code are to be included whenever the template is transcluded or substituted. So we planned to see that the appearance of the template page itself is visualize when used in an article, word or pages.

What is your idea?

Why is it important?

Template Cascading Styles Sheets and Templates are extremely needed in Hausa Community to make Hausa Wikis’s main page look perfectly, as well as effective in collecting data, categorization of words, articles, images and sound accordingly, to serve boilerplate messages delivery, standardization, warnings /notices, infoboxes, referencing needing, navigational boxes, infoboxes and other similar purposes for template tagging and tasks. Currently, these templates do not exist in Hausa Wikitionary, Hausa Wikiqoute and Wikimedia Commons/ha, only little number of this templates exist in Hausa Wikipedia when I create it in the last one and the half years ago, when time and resources are very limited, having this opportunity will help us develop the Wiki projects accordingly. https://diff.wikimedia.org/2021/06/10/hausa-wikipedia-main-page-progression/

Is your project already in progress?

As I mentioned earlier on, I have started working on it in the late 2021 for Hausa Wikipedia main page other tagging templates, infoboxes templates and what have you, and now it has been stopped long time ago without concluding the stuff work, due to limited resources and manpower, the started work can be seen [https://diff.wikimedia.org/2021/06/10/hausa-wikipedia-main-page-progression/

How is this project relevant to credibility and Wikipedia?

Credibility? The credibility of this work can be seen in the past work we have done so far [https://diff.wikimedia.org/2021/06/10/hausa-wikipedia-main-page-progression/

What is the ultimate impact of this project?

The ultimate impact for this project is to update the Main pages of four Hausa Wiki projects to be updated, funtional and efficient through the use of templates. and to create other Wikimedia templates that will impact articles for notices, warning, credibility and other functions of Wikimedia Templates.

Can your project scale?

Yes it will definitely scale through, why is because we have done it before, and we have successfully made it in changing the main page of Hausa Wikipedia, which you can also witnessed it in diff and with the above links I have shared with you on our past voluntary work.

Why are you the people to do it?

We are the people to do it because we think we have the experience of creating templates, we have done it before and we have a successful made an impact, now on with a full confidence that we can make it happen if given the opportunity.

What is the impact of your idea on diversity and inclusiveness of the Wikimedia movement?

We planned to as well create templates that will promote feminism articles, words and other pages. Also to engage more female in the projects.

What are the challenges associated with this project and how you will overcome them?

Creating templates is a more complex coding, changing a single dot or not placing it appropriately will ruin it, making the whole template not working. so has to be taken in making sure that templates are created accordingly to be funtional.

How will you spend your funds?

We will spent the funds to organize four events for each Hausa Wiki projects, costing 2,000$ for each event, on every each event we will use the funds to hire Hall, Computer, refreshments, transport, childcare, Merchandisers, Projectile, Data cost and other expenses.

How long will your project take?

The project will take two months, two weeks for each project events, making the total of four months.

Have you worked on projects for previous grants before?

Yes, I myself have successfully execute several grants projects as a lead organizer, almost more than 15 projects, with a merit participation in several Wikimedia grants projects as facilitator/mentor across Nigeria, Africa and International level.
