Opportunities and constraints in promoting Assamese Wikimedia

Abstract/description of your session

• The Assamese Wikimedia community has been working towards promoting its projects through different platforms. I hope to highlight these efforts and explore other options to make it more effective in future in this presentation. I will give an update on ongoing efforts for promoting Wiki projects such as regular workshops, online meetings, wiki clubs, social media engagement and collaboration with academic institutions. I will also discuss how these efforts have helped in increasing contributions to Assamese Wikimedia projects and also challenges that we have faced so far.

How does it connect with the WCI 2023 theme/focus

• WikiConference India (WCI) aims to bring Wikimedia community members across India and other Indic communities from the South Asia region to improve cross-community connections and exchange knowledge and experience. Therefore, it will be an opportunity to inform all Wikipedia's in India about the progress of the promotion of Assamese Wikipedia or the steps taken by Assamese administrators and members to popularize Wikipedia.
