- Being rooted in academics, I would like to spread Wiki awareness among the students and research scholars in India. For this reason, I hope Wikipedia will also extend its helping hand in order to strengthen the academic framework in India.
My proposals are as follows:- Though my focus is in the Indian context, my first and third suggestions have global appeal.
1. I would like to suggest Wikiversity to take one initiative to reach out, more effectively, to the students across the globe. If model answers from reputed universities of the world like Oxford University, the University of Harvard, etc. are uploaded, then the students across the globe may benefit. These model answers should be based on individual subjects like physics, chemistry, English, geography and many more.
2. In the Indian context, most of the urban area students are aware of Wikipedia, but they fail to keep themselves up-to-date with the various other resources associated with Wikipedia like wikibooks, wiktionary, wikiquote and many more. However, most of the rural area students are not familiar with any of the wiki resources. Here I propose the formation of Wiki Representatives (WR). These WRs will conduct programmes, workshops, conferences and seminars in rural areas to spread awareness among students about Wiki Learning (WL)—learning with the help of Wikipedia.
3. This suggestion is on the part of the research scholars. I would like to request Wikiversity to prepare a database of the research works that have been done in the Indian Universities. The database should be prepared University wise. The WRs can help in the preparation of the database. Though there is a website, which provides the record of research works done in the Indian Universities, it is not up-to-date and user friendly.
If I am given the opportunity to speak in the WikiConference, I hope to present more innovative ideas to build a better and educated India with Wiki resources.
