WikiClub Cebu, an enthusiast group dedicated to contributing to various Wikimedia projects, including Cebuano Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikivoyage, Wikiquote, and Wikimedia Commons.
Our motivation
editOur goal is to preserve and promote the Cebuano language, culture, and heritage by creating and sharing valuable content with the world. We aim to enrich and expand the presence of Cebuano content across multiple Wikimedia platforms.
Focus projects
editWikiClub Cebu will engage in a range of activities to support our Wikimedia mission:
- Cebuano Wikipedia
- Enhancing the depth and quality of articles to ensure accurate and comprehensive information is available.
- Wiktionary
- Currently in incubator, we shall develop a robust Cebuano lexicon with definitions, pronunciations, and usage examples.
- Wikivoyage
- Creating detailed travel guides for Cebu and other regions, helping travelers discover hidden gems and cultural highlights.
- Wikimedia Commons
- Uploading and organizing images, videos, and other media related to Cebu, the Cebuano culture and landmarks.
- Wikiquote
- Collecting and curating notable quotes from Cebuano literature, speeches, and everyday life.

editNovember 29, 2024
editWikiClub Cebu launched on November 29, 2024 in Mandaue, Cebu, Philippines, the launch was attended by media practitioners and Cebu's influencers and guests from the education department and parents and teachers association officers.
Participants and members were oriented about the context of a WikiClub, the duties and responsibilities of members, core team, how to edit Wikipedia, upload images on Wikimedia Commons, translate articles in Cebuano language and the basic knowledge such as creating an account and the importance of citations in articles.
After the launch, a brief photowalk activity was initiated to allow participants the actual look and feel of how to add images on Wikimedia Commons transpired in the busy streets of Cebu City and a few monuments were also taken.
