WikiAfrica in Ethiopia has developed a series of initiatives promoted in the frame of WikiAfrica by the Africa Centre.
In 2013 a specific WikiAfrica Ethiopia project was promoted by the Africa Centre and supported by Prince Claus Fund: Activate Africa (Prince Claus Fund). During 2014, the WikiAfrica Ethiopia project was run by Abel Asrat as a Wikipedian in Residence with the following organisations:
- Network of Ethiopian Woman Association
- STIC-Science Technology Information Center
- Zone9 Bloggers
- Addis Standard
- Zoma Contemporary Art Center
- Ethiopian Author Association and Music Association
- AIESEC Ethiopia
- Yellow Movement, Xhub, ICE Addis
This project made possible the first Kumusha Bus was held in Addis Ababa in June 2014 (funded by Creative Commons Affiliate Grant), the development of Project Luwi, hosting Wiki Loves Africa in Ethiopia, and assisted with the launch of Creative Commons Ethiopia.
