WM ZA/SWIP 2024 Writing Competition
Project Overview:
editThe SADiLaR-Wikipedia-PanSALB (SWiP) Writing Competition is a short-term initiative aimed at preserving our official South African languages by contributing to Wikipedia. The competition provides an opportunity for both new and existing editors to engage in content creation while fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
Key Objectives:
- Increase content in all official South African languages on Wikipedia.
- Motivate existing editors to continue their contributions.
- Encourage participation and engagement from new editors.
- Enhance skills and knowledge related to editing and contributing to Wikipedia.
- Promote the addition of quality content across various topics and subjects in all official South African languages.
Competition Process for all official South African languages except for isiNdebele
editNB: Please note that you cannot continue with the competition without a Wikipedia username. Step 1: Creating a Wikipedia username (if you don't have one)

- Activate your username via the email you have provided during registration.
- Send your activated username to swip sadilar org.

Step 3: Article Requirements
Please review the article criterion below, ensure your articles meets these requirements.
- Entries must be written in any of the official South African languages.
- Entries must demonstrate a level of proficiency in the chosen language, including correct grammar, spelling, and syntax.
- Articles must have references or be supported by appropriate citations to reliable sources.
- Articles should include relevant links to other Wikipedia pages.
- Entries should maintain a neutral tone and present information objectively, without bias or opinionated language. Avoid promoting any particular point of view and strive for balanced coverage of the topic.
- Each article must include at least one picture to enhance visual appeal and complement the written content.
- Articles must contain a minimum of 100 words, to ensure sufficient depth of coverage on the chosen topic.
- Entries should be organised with clear headings and subheadings to facilitate readability and navigation within the article.
- Articles must be assigned to an appropriate category to help readers find related topics and navigate the Wikipedia platform effectively.

- Second-best article in each official language.
- Most article contributor for the duration of the SWiP project.
- Most photo uploader for the duration of the SWiP project.
- Competition winners will be awarded a goodie bag brimming with exciting gifts.
- The second-runners up winners will also take home a goodie bag packed with fantastic surprises.
Competition Timeline:
edit- Contest duration: 24 July 2024 to 19 August 2024.
- Judging period: 20 August 2024 to 20 September 2024.
- Winner notification: 23 to 30 September 2024.
