If you are a regularly active volunteer for Wikipedia and its sister projects, the German-language Wikimedia organizations can issue you a certificate of voluntary work. In some German states, it is also possible to apply for a volunteer card for discounts on cultural offerings. |
Certificate of voluntary work
The certificate of voluntary work serves as proof of your volunteer activity and is personalized in terms of duration, type, and scope of your volunteer activities. It can be useful, for example, when submitting job applications. Furthermore, it may be necessary by means of a certificate of voluntary work to provide proof to the authorities that received payments concern a reimbursement of incurred costs, not a paid allowance.
Volunteer card
For volunteers residing in certain cities, counties, and municipalities in Germany, a so-called volunteer card can be issued. It provides, among other things, discounted admission to cultural or recreational facilities. You can find out whether the volunteer card is offered in your area through the responsible city or local office. You can also directly contact Wikimedia Deutschland.
Simply reach out to the Wikimedia organization of the country where you reside. Please indicate whether you would like a certificate of voluntary work or volunteer card, along with your full name and user name. For a certificate of voluntary work that is personalized and as detailed as possible, it is helpful if you already provided details about the nature and scope of your activity in the Wikimedia projects and tell us why you need the certificate. The prerequisite for obtaining the certificate of voluntary work is that you regularly contribute to a Wikimedia project with a user account as a volunteer. Active contribution is usually determined based on the right to vote in de-Wikipedia. The conditions for obtaining a volunteer card differ depending on the region or city. Frequently, however, one of the criteria is volunteer work amounting to an average of five hours per week.
