Welcome to Meta!
editHello Ryan Kaldari, and welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). If you would like, feel free to ask me questions on my talk page. Happy editing! mickit 21:57, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Copyright problem with File:Add banner static.png
editThank you for uploading File:Add banner static.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at this page. Thanks again for your cooperation. mickit 21:57, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Problem with location of a proposal
edit2015 Community Wishlist Survey/Categories#Tools for dealing with citations of withdrawn academic journal articles is located on the "Categories' page. However, there is nothing in the proposal, at all, that relates to categories. I think it belongs on the "Miscellaneous" page. John Broughton (talk) 00:51, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
Logic
editIf, as you said, the page isn't going to be edited in the future, then why do you need functional section editing links? Use the plain old edit button for the whole page. Or move the translate tags outside the section heading, while leaving the rest of it alone.
If, as you seem to believe, the page is going to be translated in the future, then your translation markup ought to reflect that desire – by making it easy on the translators, not by making it easy for the section edit link to be functional but pointless, because the page isn't supposed to be changed again.
I've re-fixed the page so that it will work for translators. If you revert it, then you will break most of the existing translations, in addition to making the planned future work (=translation) be harder at the expense of work that you plan not to happen at all (=editing that section). Please keep that in mind when you make your choices. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 01:52, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
- (Possible confusion over wording, might be due to my over-concise and poorly-worded explanation to Whatamidoing in chat.)
- As I understand it, the proposals sections should be translated (but these sections will not change from now onward), and the section edit links in the English version of the page should all still work properly to enable voting in the ===votes=== sub-sections.
- HTH. Sorry I don't have more time or expertise for this. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 02:07, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
- Done. <h2> headers work well for this, and also prevent anyone from accidentally editing the wrong section. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 02:12, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Whatamidoing (WMF):
- I didn't say the page wasn't going to be edited. The part that is being translated is the part that won't be edited. The voting section will definitely be edited and needs to be easily editable from the section edit links. That is the most critical function of the page.
- The people who are going to be translating these pages are experienced Wikipedians. They won't be confused by Wikimarkup.
- If you're going to edit war over it, you should at least get on IRC to discuss it. It's a bit frustrating to spend the day consulting with people on how to implement the translations, and then finally getting it all done only to have someone randomly undo your work and break things in the process. There are 16 other survey pages just like that one except much longer. Your assistance would have been super helpful before all the pages were marked for translation, not after. Ryan Kaldari (WMF) (talk) 02:53, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
- I got involved because the page was visibly broken (=raw translation tags were showing to readers on all translation subpages). I have fixed that problem for you. I hope that the current solution meets all of your requirements. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:39, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

Wishlist survey - request to withdraw proposal
editPlease remove my proposal headed "Tell prospective users what Wikipedia is not for" from the "Editing" section of the wishlist survey, as it seems this is not a proposal that requires any development - the necessary facility already exists. Discussion will evidently be needed to decide whether and how to use it, but it is not something that is a competitor for development resources. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:55, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
Hi, is this template still needed?--Piramidion 11:46, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
And this one: Template:Community_Wishlist_Survey/Voting - I don't see where it is, was or could be used, and if I should translate these pages (so that they could be possibly used in a similar survey in the future), or I should remove them from the list of the pages for translation. Currently the Template:Community_Wishlist_Survey/Top is used for the survey. And one more - Template:Community Wishlist Survey/Top/i18n - I don't understand on what basis these templates are kept here. If there's something I don't know, please, be so kind to explain it to me, because right now such templates are included into the Special:LanguageStats, and I can either translate (if they are still needed, or remove them from translation.--Piramidion 18:38, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Piramidion: Those can be deleted. They were replaced by {{Community Wishlist Survey Voting}}. Thanks! Ryan Kaldari (WMF) (talk) 20:54, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, I've forgotten about this one :) I'll remove those from translation but leave it up to you whether to delete them completely.--Piramidion 11:08, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Bing key
editHi, I want to request Bing API key for copyvio checker bot for cswiki and I was telled that you are the right person for this requests. Could you give me one key? Thanks, --Urbanecm (talk) 19:10, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Urbanecm! We are still in the process of finalizing an agreement with Microsoft. Can you send me a link to the interface or code for your copyvio checker bot? Does it run from Tool Labs? I'll take a look at it and see if we can get it included. Ryan Kaldari (WMF) (talk) 16:44, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, I want to use
earwigbot
pacgage. The bot'll run from Tool Labs. I cannot send you the code, because it isn't done. I want to know if I can get one key before I start programming. If it is possible, I can start it and then I can send it to you. --Urbanecm (talk) 17:10, 4 April 2016 (UTC)- We are currently discussing the use of the API with Microsoft (as our use for copyvio detection is not completely aligned with their Terms of Use for the API). I will mention this case as well and let you know as soon as our agreement is finalized. Hopefully, we can make the key available to you as well. Ryan Kaldari (WMF) (talk) 17:54, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, I want to use
The Community Wishlist Survey
editHi,
You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.
You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
User page
editIt would be helpful if your userpage here was the same as other WMF staff. I had to Google you to find out what your job title was. Bitter Oil (talk) 21:24, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
Notification about a grant request
editHi.
As someone who commented about my grant request (including the talk page) last year requesting funding to create the GlobalWatchlist extension, I thought you might want to know that I have requested another grant to continue development. You can see the new request at Grants:Project/DannyS712/Continued work on GlobalWatchlist extension - if you support this, I hope you'll consider endorsing the request.
My apologies if you were already aware of the new grant request (I sent a similar message to the subscribers of User:DannyS712/Global watchlist/Updates - sorry for any duplicates).
Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 00:43, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
