Priority languages

I've added in three priority languages (sme, sms, and smn), but the latter two do not show up on the front page. Any ideas why not? -Yupik (talk) 08:38, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Yupik: This is because of phab:T235027. A patch that will hopefully fix it is going out with this week's train. In the meanwhile, the trick to get it to show up is to go back to the translation, add and remove a space from the first item, and save. That'll create the page of the language and make it show up in the language list. /Julle (talk) 10:13, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

OK, I suspect this is the explanation. See, if you go to e.g. the Swedish translation, it'll say "Translate to svenska" in the upper right corner. But for e.g. =&language=sms it doesn't show a language name. See screenshot – the name isn't in the system? Yes, it's not available in names.php because it's not a user interface language. In short: the Translate extension probably uses LanguageCode::isKnownLanguageTag to check if e.g. =sms is a known language tag. And it is! But it's not one of our UI languages. So you can translate, but there's nothing in our system that recognises the language of the translation. /Julle (talk) 12:33, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

• French: "Qu'est-ce qui vous rend heureux cette semaine?" (This phrasing uses the second person plural pronoun "vous" since the question is being asked to an audience of many. It could feel a bit formal, though we can confidently use the masculine adjectival form "heureux" since a multitudinous audience of unknown composition is linguistically assumed to be of mixed gender, which takes the masculine. An alternate translation of "Qu'est-ce qui te rend heureux/heuruese cette semaine?" could also be correct; using the second person singular pronoun "te" reads more personally, as if addressing you, dear specific reader, but it also requires knowledge of whether that individual reader is male or female in order to select the correct/corresponding adjectival form "heureux" or "heureuse." • Hi User:Alsd2, thank you for the translations. I added your Tagalog translation at the bottom of this translation page. There is already a French version. When you go to User:Pine/WMYHTW translations are you able to see the link that says "Translate" and the list of existing translations? It's OK if you don't know how to use the translation tool. Dè chur sunnd ort an t-seachdain seo? (Note: this is in past tense, it would be awkward in present tense.) An alternative translation might be: Dè tha air a chur sunnd ort an t-seachdain seo? (present perfect) I couldn't figure out how to add it. Buidhe (talk) 02:56, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
