Hi, you have created these two pages about user groups as drafts. I know that in general drafts should not be marked for translation, but I think it would be helpful to have translatable informations about all user groups. Since both pages contain only a few sentences it might be not that bad if the content changes, because there is not much work for translators. Another option could be to enable translation and discourage from translation. I would like to hear your thoughts about making these pages translatable. Thanks, --Ameisenigel (talk) 09:42, 26 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @Ameisenigel - If you think it'd be helpful to have these pages translated, be my guest. My concern is that I am not sure how much these would last around. I mean, the push subscription managers group is meant to be used by one and only one account on the WMF wikis (and having a user right to be used for just one account sounds like bad logic to me, all due respect). As for the users blocked from the IP Info tool, as of today, no local functionary anywhere can add or remove this group to/from any account (just stewards) and except from this brief mention there's no process to do so. Not to mention that I also feel it's bad logic to create user groups to disallow users to do something, rather than to allow (which what we've always done). As the IP Masking thing goes forward, I hope they do rethink about this as IMHO it makes no sense to add user "rights" to revoke users to do something (although MediaWiki does allow this, it just sound weird). I understand these are just technical concerns which do not make these groups go away so, as I've said, if you think it's useful to have these marked for translation feel free to do so; although I think I'd discourage translation as there's no use case for any of these as of today. - Thank you for your answer. In fact I agree with your thoughts on these user groups. We will se how things move on. --Ameisenigel (talk) 17:26, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
