other dataformat?

edit

hi, I use your tool contributors quite often and like it very much. Do you know of a way, to get the data/results in some other format than html? f.e. is there an adress or tool that gives out xml or rss or even sql itself? thanx, 85.179.17.74 22:13, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

All my tools are currently down. There was a massive db crash some weeks ago - now the data is back, but i still have to untangle things, rebuild auxiliary tables, etc. Will be some more days, I guess. -- Duesentrieb 08:25, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's not Friday the 13th, but it looks like the tool is down:

Total edits and/or percentages

edit

It would be nice to have the results reported as percentages and/or cumulative percentages, besides absolute number of edits. If that is too much trouble, just printing the totals at the top of the count column would already help.
(The information I am trying to obtain is how good articles get created: by intense work of a few editors, or the collaboration of hundreds of editors? Unfortunately the distribution of [number of edits per user] in FA pages has both a few very tall peaks and a very broad tail, so it is hard to tell which component predominates.) All the best, --201.82.133.122 16:29, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Borked for articles with a colon in the title?

edit

e.g. en: Degrassi:_The_Next_Generation

Example

Presumably a problem with interpretation of namespace?

As opposed to;

select user_name, count(*) from page right join revision on rev_page = page_id join user on user_id = rev_user where page_title = 'Degrassi:_The_Next_Generation' and page_namespace = 0 group by rev_user order by count(*) desc limit 5 ;

+----------------+----------+
| user_name | count(*) |
+----------------+----------+
| Matthewedwards | 531 |
| Robinepowell | 126 |
| Boycottthecaf | 88 |
| Brainboy109 | 61 |

Download?

edit

Is it possible to download the loos, to be used in an intranet wiki?

I've looked in http://toolserver.org/~daniel/downloads/ but couldn't find it there.

also, is there a tool that does the same (sort the page history by editor, hide minors) within the wiki (not an outside tool).

Thanks,

Dedi.

Documentation / Column headers

edit

Thanks for creating such a useful tool, but would it be possible to provide documentation or an expanded column header that would clearly explain the meaning of the numbers in the edit column of the output.

Let me discuss one sample line:

  • 107 (62/45) Jagged 85

I can understand that 107 is the user's total edits on the article, but there is no indication what the numbers 62 and 45 mean. My guess is that one number represents edits that have been reverted and the other represents edits that are still in the article, but that is only a guess and I don't have a clue as to which is which. --SteveMcCluskey 21:45, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

107 is the total edits, 45 is the number of edits marked as m (minor), 62 is the number of non-minor edits Little Professor 17:56, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Could you also include a count of how many edits were reverts? This is relevant for highly contested pages such as Liberalism where not much changes and the history is mainly a sequence of edits being rolled back.

Data in parentheses?

edit

Greetings. I have only recently been using your Contributors tool, but I find it extremely helpful in seeing who is putting in work on particular articles, especially live editors vs. bots. I'm hoping you could tell me what the split in parentheses is that appears after the total # of edits when doing a Contributors query on a particular article? Is it: # of edits / # of edits reverted? Thank you in advance for the explanation. UOJComm 20:39, 15 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Answered in previous section, would be useful to have on the user page for the tool. Nobody Ent (talk) 12:57, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Add to user page

edit

Example output

107 (62/45) Jagged 85

  • User Jagged 85
  • 107 live edits
  • 62 major
  • 45 minor

The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nobody Ent (talk • contribs) .

Many people are unable to guess what the numbers in parentheses mean. There are different output formats so I suggest adding:

When edits are grouped by user, the numbers in parentheses are major and minor edits.

In normal (HTML) format, click a column heading to sort by that column.

Feature request: Count the edits including subpages

edit

Hi, can you extend the tool (using low effort) to count all edits including all subpages of a page?

Reason: A wikibook doesn't contain a single page, but a lot of subpages. All the pages can be found via Special:PrefixIndex. If I want to count all edits of a book, I have to use the tool 10x, 20x, or 50 times - once for each subpage (that is for each chapter) and to add all the results. It would be wonderful if the tool could show an option "include all subpages", count all the edits, and add automatically.

Do you agree? Do you have the time for this improvement? -- Thank you! Jürgen (de) 13:56, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Re: Total# (# / #) editorID

edit

As repeatedly requested (& helpfully explained by others above)

This tool output could STILL use an explanation of the meaning of the (#/#) in the output :-)

Otherwise it's quite helpful--thanks

Diff counter ?

edit

Hi, thanks a lot for your very nice tool that I plan to use for some academic research. I wondered it it could be possible, with low effort, to include an additional field in the results stating the differences (+/- in octets) between versions of an article. Just as what can be accessed through the "View history" tab on nay wp/wm article. Alternatively, just the lenght of the article, for every edit, would be also very useful. best wishes for 2013, danke, Bonhomme.vincent (talk) 09:09, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Can I call Contributors from a Script

edit

Hi there,

I am very impressed with what you have done so far on this project. I am just wondering how did you build your back-end database? How often do you sync it to the real Wiki dump? Lastly, can I run this query using a script without having to using the web form to get the edit history?

Thanks,

Rob
