Hey Derick!

I am so happy to see you working with the WMF. Congratulation! I did not get time to apply for this offer, as I see my friend there why can't I be happy? I also encourage your commitment to the african community. Go ahead! --BamLifa (talk) 11:21, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Your recent JS changes edit

Status:    Done

Hello,

As you are likey aware, your recent change to javascript caused all users to see a dialog box appear unexpectedly. In light of this, Can I recommend you test changes in another environment first? You also may want to consider adding an indication of what triggered it. Finally, I noticed you had 'Ops!' in the notice, Did you mean 'Oops!'? Thanks, RhinosF1 (talk) 17:49, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reporting. I already reverted the change and using a different approach in solving the problem. Sorry about the mess. --DAlangi (WMF) (talk) 17:52, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

default gadgets edit

Status:    Done

Hi DAlangi (WMF), are these entires:

wrcAddNewIndividual[ResourceLoader|default|targets=desktop,mobile]|wrcAddNewIndividual.js
wrcAddNewGroup[ResourceLoader|default|targets=desktop,mobile]|wrcAddNewGroup.js

literally only used to be the target of the buttons on this page: Connect?

If so, can we change them to sto being default and just tie the script to the button link? — xaosflux Talk 18:42, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
FYI, we recently were able to do something similar on enwiki (c.f. w:en:MediaWiki_talk:Gadget-DRN-wizard.js#convert_to_Snippets/Load_JS_and_CSS_by_URL?) by using newer functionality. — xaosflux Talk 18:44, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi xaosflux, yes I think they're used only on the Connect portal. I'll look at the link you shared and try to understand what was done. Or do you want to go ahead and tie the script to the buttons? --DAlangi (WMF) (talk) 10:39, 31 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the note, since it is also on all of those "pencil" links, not going to migrate it for now. Would be a good candidate for <templatescripts> if it ever launches. — xaosflux Talk 12:32, 4 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much! --DAlangi (WMF) (talk) 17:33, 5 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

User:Isaacandy userpage edit edit

Status:    Done

I notice that you did a minor edit to the userpage of User:Isaacandy, who has since been blocked for spamming on the English and Malay Wikipedias. There is also currently a discussion open regarding the user's problematic (self-promotional) activities here on Meta-Wiki. Since you made the edit using your staff account, I'd like to know: Does the Wikimedia Foundation have any particular association with the individual in question? I assume the answer is no, and the use of the staff account was just a mistake (or just for convenience), but I just want to be sure.

Thanks. --Yair rand (talk) 06:07, 12 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Yair rand: Can no longer see the content of the edit(s), seems the page as been deleted (by ~Riley). Before I begin answering the questions, let me apologize, sorry to break any rules or violate any policy. I had no idea this user had been blocked from editing on several wikis and also, the edit was made just for convenience (in this case I guess) - if I see the revision of the edit (which has been unfortunately deleted as at now), I would have known the reason I made the edit. Also, in my view, I'm not sure if the WMF has any particular association with the individual, none that I'm aware of. Thank you 🙂 --DAlangi (WMF) (talk) 10:00, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry, you weren't breaking any rules, I just wanted to know if there was some official function I was missing. :) Thanks for the clarification. --Yair rand (talk) 17:00, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Affiliate report due for .... 2021?? edit

Status:    Done

Hi Dlangi, you posted [[metawiki:Talk:Les_sans_pagEs#[Third_Reminder]_Notification_of_Affiliate_Expiration_-_Renewal_pending_submission_of_reporting|this]] on our UG discussion page. How can the report be due when 2021 is not even finished ? I am a little puzzled. Nattes à chat (talk) 09:45, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is absolute non-sense. I already submitted the report about year 2020 months ago. It is duely listed in the report page. This is the link to the report [1]. And Nattes à Chat sent the email to the list to announce it.
Certainly, you do not expect us to report on our activities related to year 2021 in January 2021, right ? So we accordingly reported our activities for year 2020 and we followed the process exactly as it is described. It is true we were a couple of months late (report published in May, but it is not easy to report as quickly as January for activities closing in December). In any cases, there is no way we are out of compliance. Anthere (talk) 12:05, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Good day @Nattes à chat: & @Anthere:. Thank you for this enquiry. Your organization was recognized in January 2020. Your 2020 report does not cover the month of January 2021. If you wish to change your reporting period from Feb - Jan, to a new reporting period of Jan - Dec, please send us an email to wadportal wikimedia.org, so that we can have an official record of this change. Upon receipt we will be able to update your reporting period so that your next report is due 31 Dec 2021. Best -- DNdubane (WMF) (talk) 12:29, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
So... let me make sure I understand well Dumi... you suggest that... our report will be due on the 31st of December for the activity period covering Jan 1st till Dec 31st ? I suggest you made a mistake here. No organization can reasonably provide an activity report the very last day of an activity period. Not only the last day is not very serious, but this is holidays season. Would you think possible that WMF provides the annual report of all its activity on the 30th of June every year ? Impossible. This will never happened and this only calls for a report to be ALWAYS late. Can you propose a more reasonable deadline for submitting a report ? Thank you Anthere (talk) 16:34, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi DNdubane, after all the unpaid work we have done as volunteers, all these strategy coc meetings in the midst of a pandemia could you not consider an exeption? I think we could do with a favour there given the quality of our report. At least please give us a little more time before declaring us "non compliant". And please update the date of the reporting without having us yet to do another mail. The foundation is supposed to support us not flood us with unecessary admin work. Nattes à chat (talk) 16:39, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Good day @Nattes à chat: & @Anthere:. I think we are not on the same page, so let me clarify. If you send us an email to update your reporting period, we would do the following:
1 - Consider the report you submitted as complete for the year 2020.
2 - Move your organization back to "compliant" immediately.
3 - Your reporting period would end December 31, 2021. As a user group, you get 30 days to complete and submit your report after the date your reporting period ends. This means your report would actually be due on the 30 Jan 2022, after which if not submitted then and only then would your organization be market as "non-compliant".
I trust the above is more clearer now. Please don't forget to send the email so that we can have an official record of this change. -- DNdubane (WMF) (talk) 16:51, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
This is clearer. Thank you. Incidently, I must say I am very proud of our report Les sans pagEs/Report 2020. Anthere (talk) 17:38, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I sent the mail but I find the whole process extremely unfriendly for UG who are small and without paid staff to do the work. We do a lot everyday and one month of delay after the end of the reporting period is just too short a delay. If this is going to be an inclusive movement, the WMF should make a difference between organisations that have paid staff available and those woh do not. Nattes à chat (talk) 16:55, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Nattes à chat:, we are very much alive to this fact. Hence compliance monitoring is done on a case-by-case basis and where an organization is unable to meet the reporting deadline or has to change the reporting period, were able to accommodate as required instead of simply taking away recognition. The new system we are using is automated and will be able to give you advanced reminders well before time and you can always chat-us up where support is needed. Best regards --DNdubane (WMF) (talk) 17:09, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Script duplicating "User" each time is used edit

How we will see unregistered users edit

Status:    Done

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

The annual report of the group of Wikimedians of Peru User Group for 2021 was sent on February 7, 2022 through the Wikimedia Affiliates Data Portal. Can you please indicate if there is another page in the Wikimedia Affiliates Data Portal where I should send the report?

Quirk with Module:Activities Reports/Affiliate Information edit

Status:    Done

Hi, Derick,

I noticed a quirk with Module:Activities Reports/Affiliate Information. I think that each time the module saves information, it is prepending User: to each & every user. Here is one example from line 5 of the file:

primary_contact1 = 'User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:User:zache',

I do not know if this is affecting anything, but I suspect this is undesirable. Peaceray (talk) 17:04, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

WikiClassics UG report edit

Status:    Done

Hi, I want to inform you that I saw your message in the talk page of the UG about the yearly report. We are fully aware that our report is due, but May and June are the worst months for both of us first contacts. Last year we even forgot to send it, assuming the other person did so.

The draft is ongoing here and we have content to put there, we even started before the deadline and your reminder as you can see from the history. We just don't have time to write it down now.

Is it fine if we postpone it to the second half of July? Everything will be simpler at that moment. Alexmar983 (talk) 21:18, 17 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Alexmar983, I'll Cc @DNdubane (WMF) to take this on moving forward. Thanks! -- DAlangi (WMF) (talk) 10:59, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
as promised to you and DNdubane (WMF), we are finally relaxed now. We will refine the report by the end of the month, hoping by the end of this week. Thanks and sorry but May and June are the worst possible months usually for us.--Alexmar983 (talk) 17:46, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Alexmar983:, That is perfectly fine. If your organization would like to change reporting period to something else other than June, you can always do so. Simply email wadportal wikimedia.org, and we will be able to assit. -DNdubane (WMF) (talk) 10:54, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
done as promised. Not sure if we should change the date. it might be ok for the next first contacts who will are planning to renew. It was simply terrible for us current ones.
We will refine and validate during the next day before sending on the mailing list, but the link is stable and can be inserted in the table.--Alexmar983 (talk) 13:08, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just to note the 2021 Wikimedia Venezuela report is ready, can you update the status of the chapter? Best, Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 18:50, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the update @Galahad. I'll defer this to @DNdubane (WMF) who is in charge of this. Thanks! -- DAlangi (WMF) (talk) 18:55, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Galahad:, thanks for submitting the latest activities report for your organization. Please also submit the latest financial report, so that we can update your organization's compliance status. --DNdubane (WMF) (talk) 20:52, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello @DNdubane (WMF). Due to the pandemic and the economic situation of the country, the chapter has not received any funding. Therefore, there is no financial report.
Also, the activities we carried out during those two years did not generate expenses.
We need to be up to date with the activity report in order to receive funds to hold the Wikimania event in Venezuela. Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 21:34, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
The best way to handle this, is to add a section in your report with the explanation that you provided here. Then submit a url to that section in the financial report form. That will be enough for us to update the compliance status. --DNdubane (WMF) (talk) 21:54, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dear Derick, you changed the chapter name on the Organizational Informations page from Wikimédia Magyarország to Wikimedia Hungary with the comment "Move to actual affiliate name.". The official (legally and by the WMF recognized) name of the chapter is Wikimédia Magyarország, and we would like to use this form, while Wikimedia Hungary is the English translation. This case is similar with many other chapters, such as Wikimedia Österreich (instead of Wikimedia Austria), Wikimedia Deutschland (instead of Wikimedia Germany) etc. Could you please move the name back to the officially recognized one?
