COIbot cases

Hi Dirk, You showed me the Case new feature on IRC a long time ago. How can I delete links and how can I make it list all links? I think it doesn't show all links it finds, probably because of the maximum length of IRC messages. EdBever 21:14, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Case.pl needs a massive rewrite .. but the commands you are looking for are 'case <##> links' and 'case <##> users' (to show the current links and users respectively), and 'case <##> delete link <domain>' and 'case <##> delete user <username>' (to delete a specific domain or user). For very long lists, I am afraid you will have to delete some of the first ones, and then you will see the rest... as I said, it needs a serious rewrite.. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 13:18, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! EdBever 11:40, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

(parking so not forgotten)
I updated the Commands page, removed "ml add" and added "monitor (regex|domain) ..." though I didn't see removal or search options. COIBot help just showed the old commands. I will grab you in IRC for the new syntax. Also need to ask about monitoring of IP adddresses. billinghurst sDrewth 21:43, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

My website

Dear Beetstra,

I have recently acquired the website www.wellness-heaven.net. I have now – unfortunately after the acquisition - found out that this domain is on the global wikipedia spam list. Is there a way to have it removed? I don't want to be held responsible for spam which (possibly) the previous owner did, nor do I want that my new web project is negatively impacted by the spam status, e.g. in search engines.

Please let me know how to proceed.

Thank you.— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Saudepp (talk)

Thank you for your question. The nature of Wikipedia is that on can always find who was responsible for what, so that is covered. But I understand your concern.
I guess the way forward is to ask for de-listing on Talk:Spam blacklist at the bottom of the appropriate section. Try to show that the domain changed owner (public records of that, e.g.), etc. An administrator will then come to handle the request (I will keep an eye on it as well). Thanks! --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 03:25, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

COIBot editting the Main Page - broken?

Please see here. Thanks. —Marco Aurelio (Nihil Prius Fide) 07:32, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

I'll answer there, so I can blame billinghurst even it is not his fault ;-). --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 12:56, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
Executive management material, and if you get away with it, we can make you into a politician. Good job. billinghurst sDrewth 02:38, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
You were right, Murphy works: [1], [2]. —Marco Aurelio (Nihil Prius Fide) 14:22, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

User:COIBot/XWiki/religiousfreedomwatch.org

Cirt has lodged a request for this domain to be blacklisted, however, XWiki report only shows the issue at one wiki. Is there a means to get a deeper report for xwikiness of a link, or to get Erwin's tools to some deeper linksearch? Previous linksearch tools seem to have fallen by the wayside. :-/ billinghurst sDrewth 02:37, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Seems to be used everywhere: http://wikipediatools.appspot.com/linksearch.jsp?link=religiousfreedomwatch.org. Not sure here, maybe ask if Cirt can show you more spammy XWiki additions. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 04:58, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

COIBot editing Main Page

Hi there, COIBot has edited (and broke) the main page twice recently. Probably there's something in the code that you can look into? Oh and from the Bot's userpage it says (t)his account does NOT edit in mainspace, template space, or whereever, it will only edit in this userspace. If it edits outside that space, please block it immediately but apparently it did edit outside user namespace. From the edit summary it says IRC commanded so I can understand. Therefore could you update the bot's userpage about this? Thanks! Bencmq 14:25, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Ah... didn't see that other section about this problem above, so please ignore the part that is duplicate :) Bencmq 14:33, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
[editconflict] Following my message in the section above, the bot continued [3], [4]; so I blocked the bot. As you're an admin yourself feel free to unblock it when you think the issue is resolved. Best regards. —Marco Aurelio (Nihil Prius Fide) 14:34, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
I can identify the issue and I will modify a practice. Beetstra, this is the couple of commands that we wondered where the command went with the [[]]. Not sure from where that errant character is coming in the copy and paste from in irc, however, I will manually add domains to the revertlist at enWP until you can get a fix in place. billinghurst sDrewth 14:44, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

One of the questions that still remains is .. why is a bot allowed to edit the mainpage of this Wiki?? I'll try and patch the bot further, try to make sure it does not do this again (can't promise, but this should not happen). --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 15:07, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Hey, Beetstra and others. It happened again today. Just reporting. Regards.” Teles (T @ L C S) 07:37, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
OK, tweaking the code further, it is a strange bug, it has something to do, it seems with a failure to read settings or so. But it knows that it is logged in, which also requires reading. Thanks anyway. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 11:08, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

w:Special:Contributions/85.178.207.92

wasn't sure of a better way to manage a new variation of CB spam. Contributions all are different domains though all reside on the same server (98.129.229.44), all have this component in their url "index-26306.html". There are good domains on that service, so I am reticent to just take more drastic measures to manage just the IP. billinghurst sDrewth 00:03, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

As long as they all have a clickbank ID, XLinkBot will revert them. That is the alert, upon which you can blacklist at will if you like. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 04:46, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

shanghairanking(.com)

I have removed \bshanghairanking\b from the blacklist. The log entry was a bit unclear, and there were serious concerns which we could not back up. Could you please comment on Talk:Spam blacklist#www.shanghairanking.com? Did you mean to block something else? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Beetstra (talk)

Hello Beetstra. I added this link to the blacklist as it was spammed by the account Shanghairanking. Even if this name clearly referred to a spam-only account and I thought the lock was fine, I should have considered a little more the blacklisting.
I have clearly no objections for you removing this entry from the blacklist. But it would really help me if the anti-spam bot could make a report everytime before I add a new entry to the blacklist. Do you know how to query such a thing ? Somebody already pointed me to User:COIBot/Poke, but that seems not to be working.
Thanks for telling me. Kind regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 09:12, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Strange. It should work. Testing:

The bot says that it detects the edits, and that it will create the reports .. lets see if it gets there.

COIBot sometimes has a tendency to miss an edit, if there is no queue anymore (you see that from the reports it does save - it means that it should have saved it, but it may have missed it, if there is a queue, it may still be in there), and it did not save it yet, then just poke it again. It also does not matter to just poke it again if there is a queue .. once it saves a report for a link, it will remove all instances out of its queue. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 12:06, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Okay, thanks for the info. I tried several time to do it in the past and the report were never created. But I'm probably not patient enough : how long should I wait approximately ? -- Quentinv57 (talk) 15:27, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Depends on the queue. Generally the queue is not too full, so 10-15 minutes max? --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 18:28, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Okay, so it should have had some problems last time I tried... -- Quentinv57 (talk) 19:15, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Leave me a note next time that /Poke is ignoring you, try two or three times. I will see if I can find the lines in the logs, and see where the problem lies. You're an admin, so it should listen to you. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 04:32, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
By the way, I can't really read the reports for wix.com. It's hard to find out. Because the recurrent x-wiki spam I found was on specific area of this website, even if I guess that other areas will be only personal websites. See Special:CentralAuth/Russian Mafia Moscow and Special:CentralAuth/Братва Воры в законе for spammed links. Thanks -- Quentinv57 (talk) 16:26, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Such sites remain a problem. Same would go for myspace.com/blah, sites.google.com/blah, etc. I should one day try and see if I can do something decent about that. I'll keep it in my mind. Thanks. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 18:28, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
No, you are the one I should thank :). -- Quentinv57 (talk) 19:15, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Category:Ignore XWiki reports

Hi Beetstra. Per advice of MarcoAurelio, please take a look at this RFD here. Thanks in advance! Regards, Trijnsteltalk 16:15, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

It is duplicate to Category:Ignored XWiki reports billinghurst sDrewth 22:04, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Something with COIBot, {{UserSummary}} and I think non-ASCII characters

If you have a look at [this page history], you will see that there seems to be some issue with non std iso characters generating a binomial increase. It is not the first that I have seen, and on case it pretty well clammed my browser. Anyway, thanks for whatever you can do. — billinghurst sDrewth 02:32, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I should work on that problem. Onto the bug list .. :-) (XLinkBot has a similar problem). --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 05:30, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
See this is a recurring problem, but could you please have a look at [[5]. Best regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 21:29, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

coibot has stopped writing to meta

Could you please take a look at it? The list on User:COIBot/Poke is getting longer and longer... Thanks in advance. Trijnsteltalk 14:37, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
Special:Contributions/COIBot - it seems to be editing normally .. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 07:39, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
I know, but he doesn't respond to the requests on the poke page and he doesn't respond to the IRC commands. Trijnsteltalk 09:17, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
I've restarted parts of the bot - there was something down indeed. Commander however did listen to me properly, so IRC should have worked properly.
Double checking - I don't see any commands by you through IRC .. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 10:36, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
You've been noticed:
So that is working properly. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 10:37, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Your action against XLSTAT.com

Hi Dirk, I hope this is the right place to contact you. I'm the founder of Addinsoft, the company that develops XLSTAT and have no plans to hide it, or do as many people who hypocrytically take fake names to add content to Wikipedia. We have been taken out of most threads where we were listed. I have no idea why, except the very basic reason that some people have infringed Wikipedia rules. While I totally agree with the Wikipedia rules (I know personnally one of the main founders), I do not see anyone in our company who would do that. We rencently had a communication company working for us to whom we have asked to stop any action on Wikipedia that could be infringing Wikipedia rules. <redacted>

The limit of Wikipedia is that it is very easy if you want to get rid of a competitor, to act as if you were from that competitor. This might be what happened, although I do not want to be paranoiac.

Regarding for the contribution of free content on the web ... I have no lessons to receive. I have been publishing content on the net since 1994 (by that time it was on bulletin boards), providing people with free content. Furthermore: - Our software has a free version that includes all modules for 30 days - We give free licenses to students in countries where the cost of our software is too much for a student - Our website is full of free tutorials on how to use different methods that can be read by anymore, whether user or not - I contributed to several scientific articles on Wikipedia without using a login like the one I'm now using to show you I'm totally transparent.

And this is of course not on our page as this would not be objective :-)

If all statistical companies are listed, there is NO reason why we should not.

Do not hesitate to discuss this further. I'm open to any comment, suggestions you would have.

Thank you,

Thierry Fahmy— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tfahmy (talk)

I think the best place is the community place for this discussion, on the talkpage of the spam blacklist. After all, both the inclusion and exclusion of information is a community decision. Regarding your arguments here, you may want to have a look at the policies on en.wikipedia first: w:WP:NOT (especially w:WP:NOT#LINKFARM and w:WP:NOT#REPOSITORY), w:WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS (those are arguments for deletion debates, but they can be ported to other parts), and on the other hand, w:WP:N (notability of information), w:WP:V (verification of information) and the reliable sources guideline - if you think that you can make a case for the notability of your software, then we could discuss removal and inclusion of mentions of the software.
That you tried to circumvent the blacklist is NOT a good plan, and I would very, very strictly try to avoid that, don't forget that you do have a conflict of interest. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 05:49, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
Well, it seems you do not want to discuss as you did not reply to my message on the spam thread, or there is a misunderstanding. Please tell me what is not neutral on our XLSTAT page. Please tell me what justifies that there is no link to our webpage on XLSTAT. Please tell me what justifies that there is not XLSTAT on the page of statistical software. If you are not able to decently answer and justify your actions, this case will be transfered to our lawyers --Thierry Fahmy.
I have explained, and it has been explained to you earlier on en.wikipedia by others. We are finished here, other editors will contact you. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 08:01, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

COIBot is AWOL

Gday Beerstar. Would you be so kind to shake the booty of COIBot, it seems to have disappeared. Thx for what you do. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:28, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

me too .. I don't have access on labs until somewhere next week. I noticed that they are all down (XLinkBot, LiWa3, COIBot and UnBlockBot), so probably both instances that they run on have been rebooted.
If you feel up to it .. someone with access to labs should be able to start them, there is a minimanual in my root dir. --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 16:49, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
I've restarted them, all seem to be running apart from xlinkbot - it failed to login with Cannot load MediaWiki cookies from file <file> at linke 138 and 150. Greping your bash history only reveals your mysql password not the bot's so I'll leave it for now. Running under your user via the commands in ~beetstra/minimanual.txt. DamianZaremba (talk) 11:42, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
Great job! The Wiki-passwords are too sensitive, so they have to be given by hand. Normally, they are in the cookie-jar, so the bots login automatically, also on a fresh start. Unfortunately, XLinkBot ate all the cookies :-(. I've started that one again, and put the cookies back in the jar. Thanks!! --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 04:12, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Can you give it a kick. DamianZaremba restarted things, however, it is still not tickety-boo, and needs a more violent Beetstra kick, if you are available. — billinghurst sDrewth 16:24, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
Running. Was awfully slow coming to. Too many beers! — billinghurst sDrewth 09:20, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Fallen over again, DamianZ tried to restart it, whereupon it crashed Client 1 got connect error 111 (Connection refused) is what it's spamming out // DIFFREADER 000001: RC: Reader connected to irc.pmtpa.wikimedia.org @ 1351904438 // Can't call method "put" on an undefined value at DiffReader.pl line 254. It isn't doing anything onwiki so it seems to be without feed. The other bots are still sitting and watching IRC. DZ was unsure whether to restart all the bots or not, and I was absolutely no help on whether that was productive or not. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:19, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

They were all dead on bots-3 this morning .. I've restarted them all, seem to be running fine. Thanks!

Tweak COIBot script

Gday young sir. At some point when you are in COIBot scripts, would you be able to tweak the presentation script for commenting about blacklists at sites.
