User talk:Bastique/Real names of non-encyclopedic individuals

I agree with the outline of this draft policy. I think its very important. In addition it could be added:

  • Personal information could be deleted from the history of pages (indeed, I have seen this done secretely several times on NL wikipedia; as well posted by the persons themselves, as by others who know more of the person).
  • Visible E-mail adresses should be removed after some time has elapsed.

We should think of a website like archive.org where all is kept "for eternity", so the Foundation should act quickly in such cases. Ellywa 22:12, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Non-encyclopedic individuals edit

In reference to the recent case on the Danish Wikipedia, the individual in question (RP) might actually have encyclopedic notability and indeed an article about him exist. I thus think this policy draft should be changed so that the notability of the person does not factor in when deciding if references to the real world name is removed.

As an example: John Smith is the president of Denmark and he creates the account "John Smith on Wikipedia" on the Danish Wikipedia. An article about him already exist which means that his name is mentioned several times, both on talk pages and in the article namespace. John Smith then uses his "John Smith on Wikipedia" account to discuss flowers arguing that they are pretty and that this should be more apparent in the article. But after some time finds out that being associated with this opinion in the real world could damage his reputation and make the many pirates living in Denmark vote on someone more tough. He then requests that his name be removed referencing this policy, but it should only be in the cases in which his Wikipedia identity is referenced, that is on the flower talk-page which is the only page he edited. John Smith has then been decoupled from his soft opinions on flowers and gets re-elected by a slight margin of pirate votes.

Hope you catch my drift... By the way, you (Cary Bass) still have some more fires to put out on the Danish Wikipedia. --Morten LJ 17:11, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
