I am a structural engineer by profession, with a focus on computer simulation, but am actively interested in a range of topics/activities, including music (guitar and singing, both choral and solo), acting, geography (mostly geopolitical), history, architecture, languages (comparative linguistics as well as specific interest in German, French, Russian, Spanish and Japanese), politics, photography, philosophy/religion and general science (at the NewScientist level). I like playing sports, but have recently messed up my knee. I live in San Francisco and my main mode of transportation is bicycle.

My programming background is in Unix C-Shell Scripts and Visual Basic for Applications (Excel), and I am trying to learn more about PHP and wikis.
