The Wikimedia Incubator is a multilingual wiki started on 2 June 2006 with the purpose to host language editions of Wikimedia projects which do not yet have their own separate wiki. On request, they are tested and proven worthy by the Language Subcommittee whether to open their own subdomain of Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, Wikiquote or Wikinews. Other Wikimedia projects are either multilingual or hosted on a different wiki.
Wikimedia Incubator is unique, in the sense that it is not a content project like Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, nor an organizational project like Meta-Wiki, which coordinates the different Wikimedia Foundation projects.
