Wikipedia
editOne day, a few years ago, I was researching a topic on Wikipedia. As I read through the article, I saw a typo: "exactly" was spelled as "exatcly". I wondered where I could go to notify someone of the error — and then I found out that I could fix it.
Then, as I was fixing the typo, I saw a place where the grammar could be made clearer. And by the time I hit "Save page", I ended up fixing twelve things in that article.
The next week, I was at the library, looking up that same subject in a paper encyclopedia. I also saw a place in that article where the grammar could have been improved. Unfortunately, I had no way to correct it.
Wikipedia is not written by a team of highly trained experts and professionals. It's written by everybody, and everybody gets a chance to improve it. It doesn't matter how small a change - typo fixes are appreciated right alongside article creations.
Unfortunately, it's not cheap to run such a project. The Wikimedia Foundation needs to raise $16 million to keep Wikipedia and all its sister projects running for the next year. So during these next two months, Wikimedia needs us all to step up with our monetary contributions as well as our editing contributions.
Please consider making a donation to the Wikimedia Foundation. Every little bit helps.
Thanks!

One day, a few years ago, I was looking up a definition on Wiktionary. As I read through the entry, I saw a typo: "exactly" was spelled as "exatcly". I wondered where I could go to notify someone of the error — and then I found out that I could fix it.
Then, as I was fixing the typo, I saw that the pronunciation of the word was missing. And by the time I hit "Save page", I ended up adding a few translations as well.
The next week, I was at the library, looking up another word in a paper dictionary. I saw that the entry in that dictionary only listed one pronunciation, whereas I knew another one. Unfortunately, I had no way to add it.
