The lists below will help you find unused media from Connected Open Heritage partners in your language on different Wikimedia projects.

To use the list simply:

  1. Click ▼ next to the Wikimedia project name.
  2. Click on a language to see all the content files that have not been added to that project in that language..

Categorise media files

Some of the files that have been uploaded may need additional categorisation. Categories are the primary way to organize and find files on Wikimedia Commons and is very helpful for people looking for media files to use on other Wikimedia projects.

To add additional categories please:

  1. Go to the Wikimedia Commons category Media files produced by UNESCO needing additional categorisation.
  2. Add relevant categories to the file, the page will save and reload after every category added.
  3. Remove Media files produced by UNESCO needing additional categorisation.

Before contributing please:

  1. Learn how to use HotCat.
  2. Enable HotCat (you will only need to do this once).
  3. Read the quick guide to choosing categories.


How to add media to Wikimedia projects

Adding media from Connected Open Heritage to different Wikimedia projects is done in the same way on all projects with the exception of Wikidata.


For instructions of how to add images to Wikimedia projects using Visual Editor please click here. To edit a page simply click edit at the top of any article.

To add an image to a Wikidata item:

  1. Use the search tool above to find an image you would like to use on Wikidata and copy the file name
  2. Use the search tool on Wikidata to find a suitable article
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the list of properties and click + add
  4. Use image as the property field and paste in the name of the file into the box that appears
  5. Click ✓ save

Tip: when reusing an audio or video file you can specify a section of the file that is played by adding |start=00:00|end=00:00| (setting the time in minutes and seconds you want to start and stop the clip) at the start of the caption field in Visual Editor or as parameters in Source editor.
