Questionnaire for Marc Venot (User:Fafnir)

1. Can you please elaborate about yourself?

My civil name: Marc Venot

profession: renting a few studios, but I spend a lot of time watching videos and playing video games

wiki: the first years on the francophone wikipedia but I switched to Ido because it’s a language that go to several of the fundamentals of thinking, something that can be called « scientific », and in a second time maybe to become the pivot language for Europe.

I try to keep as much time as possible to use my computer for playing and watching games.

2.  Briefly tell us about your background - family, work as well as linguistic pursuits.

I am Single. I live in Vancouver (Main City), BC.

Linguistics is one of my hobbies. I would be interested by other languages like Lojban or Bliss but it’s not developed enough on the net. Since I like so much logic I am easily stress by real life.

3. Tell us briefly about how you got introduced to Wikimedia projects? Also, how in a very short period of time (less than a year), you have made close to 400 thousand edits across all Wikimedia projects. What motivates you?

I started to use Wikipedia so I notice some errors and started to correct them.

Motivation: To make Wikipedia a tool and also often when I go in forums I indicate that my information comes from Wikipedia.

4.  Tell us about your special interest in Ido Wikimedia projects.

-Artomo and those who show unexpected topics.

5. Please elaborate on your massive contributions to Ido Wiktionary (nature/type)?

Most often it’s adjustments - that inflates numbers.

For the main contributions I read newspapers in the six languages on which Ido is based and look for words that the wiktionary don’t have.

6. Tell us about your role as the Sysop of Ido Wikipedia.

Mostly to keep some coherence, notably in the categories and templates.

7. You have also contributed to French Wikipedia and French Wiktionary. Can you elaborate on it (nature/type).

At the time it was much less developed so I had a broad choice and notably about the military to cross reference. But when it become too much of editing war I look elsewhere.

8.  How different was your contributor experience on French and Ido projects?

If an automatic translator exists I would take 80% of the French wiki into Ido.

9. You have also contributed English Wiktionary to some degree. Tell us about the special significance Wiktionaries have among other Wikimedia projects?

Mostly I did only add or correct links in it. I am not good enough to contribute more than very marginally to it.

10. Do your near and dear ones support your Wikimedia pursuits?

I am single so nobody as to say anything about what I do.

11. Elaborate on the Community interactions on French and Ido projects.

I have abandoned (except to correct typos) the French one. For the Ido please look at Artomo page.

12.  How do you feel about the scope of Ido Wikimedia projects in terms of expansion and growth?

It should find way to put the references for example into another dimension. They are a necessity but should be loaded only on request.

In a category, for example games, it would be better to present them as dots in a diagram than the actual list to ease the interpretation on their characteristics.

In general it needs much more tools to present the world in 3 or even 4D.

13. What, according to you, is the scope of expansion of Ido language in the 21st Century?

It needs a translator like those offered by Google or Microsoft. Once that obtained the politics must answer why they don’t use it.

14.  Do you feel there are avenues of cooperation with Ido’s cousins – Esperantists on Wikimedia?

I don’t see how.

15. What are your future Wiki goals and ambitions?

To keep it clean and keep up with the good guys (or gals).

To see if a product, for example proposed on Kickstarter or from Google can change and hopefully improved my views on things

16. Have you participated in offline Wiki events (meetups, editathons, etc)?

No.

17. Do Ido Wikimedians use Social Media to stay connected?

Not that I know of. And on the social front Esperanto is much better.

18.  Are you active on Social Media in connection with Wikimedia Projects?

No.

19.  Can you elaborate a bit on your Ido  & French colleagues? Also what strategies do you suggest in enlisting new users and retaining old ones on Wikimedia Projects.

About Ido Artomo is a pro and Joao Xavier has become a pillar. There are good ones too but have contributed much sparsely.

About the French ones I have loose touch.

Strategies: To improve the product so it show better how causes create effects

20. What is your message for new Wikimedians – both for Ido and French?

This task is tough but keep looking at it
