Comment to self:

  • Template to catch subpages and list here as a TOC needed
  • 'Read more...' template to cut-off all submission content and just display title/desc.

Create coordinate picker for Wikidata property: coordinate location (P625)

Description of issue

edit

When adding geographical coordinates to a Wikidata item, I currently have to navigate to an external / 3rd-party site to search and copy the coordinates, before pasting them into the Wikidata item-property. This leaves much room for error: the coordinates could be presented in the format or data-type. Human error could only partially copy the coordinates. I could get distracted and not finish the process of navigating back to Wikidata to complete the process. I would prefer to do this on-wiki. It would be beneficial to add a gadget that opens a map when inputting a value for coordinate property. This map allows an input of an open string such as an address to focus the map on the object area. I could click anywhere on the map and have the coordinates displayed. A confirmation button is displayed and clickable to automatically enter the displayed coordinates into the coordinate location property box. This change could ensure only the right format of coordinates is entered. It would reduce the time needed and no. of abandoned edits.
