I served on the board of Wikimedia South Africa from 2016 to 2024, where I helped professionalize- and position the chapter for absorbing all WMF contributions made by Southern Africans, so that we can better support our local communities. If you have a project in mind, and need support, structure your plan and reach out to your local chapter! There are full time employees whose job it is to help you, who get paid well - and there are also volunteers who signed up to help you. Make it easy for them to provide the help you need, or if you love helping others do admin, do volunteer for your chapter. I am an entrepreneur and have held positions in ISP and IoT companies as well other volunteer organizations.
