- We will review your application within at least three weeks. We may ask questions about your application. You will answer the questions within 5 working days.
- We will review your application one final time. We will notify you of the final decision.

What we fund and how to plan your project?
editMovement Strategy Implementation Grants help communities to work on a Movement Strategy Initiatives. The projects can be big or small but all of them must support one initiative.
- Read updates about the Movement Strategy initiative that you want to support.
- Read the examples of what we fund.
- Plan clearly and write precisely. Share and ask others for feedback.
- Reach other community members and groups. Positive feedback from volunteers and affiliates not working on your project will help during the review process.
We will not fund if the proposal:
- Does not show clear progress in the implementation of the Movement Strategy initiative. This will work even if you have many endorsements.
- Does not have a complete explanation of how the activities are connected to the project goals.
- Does not pass the eligibility criteria for the program.
The Movement Strategy Implementation Grants has three important steps. These steps help you and us to work together and receive feedback.

General ideas
- Community Engagement Package - introducing Movement Strategy to your community members.
- Researching Hubs - research projects that find the best ways to work together for your community.
- Planning Hubs - facilitating community talks about hubs.
Skill development
- Needs Assessment for Skills Development - understanding how community members learn and what they want to learn.
- Translation of a Learning Resource - finding and planning a skill development activity. Adapting any tool for your community.
- Creating a New Learning Resource or Activity - creating learning tools to increase the management skills of affiliates.
Who can apply?
editThis fund is for you if you:
- Are a Wikimedia affiliate, group or volunteer with experience in the Wikimedia movement.
- Request up to 25,000 USD. Contact the Program Officer at strategy2030 wikimedia.org if you request higher funding.
- The project you have in mind aims to improve third-party websites.
- You are from a country that cannot legally receive funding for the described activities and expenses, based on laws on sending and receiving funds in the United States and their country.
- The project includes lobbying activities, as per United States Internal Revenue Service definitions.
- You are listed on the United States Department of Treasury Specially Designated Nationals And Blocked Persons List (SDN).
- You are a Wikimedia Foundation staff member or contractor.
- You are a General Support Fund grantee partner.
- You are a board member, leader (contacts submitted to AffCom), president, bank account signatory, executive director, and other paid staff or contractor of a Wikimedia affiliate group or organisations with existing Wikimedia Foundation Fund awards.
- Should there be minimal overlap between your role and the application activities, the program officer may make exceptions to this criterion.
- You are an individual applying and receiving funds on behalf of different groups or organisations.
- You are looking to fund travel scholarships or conference participation.
- You do not provide all information and documents needed to receive the funding from Wikimedia Foundation.
- We take all applicants through a due diligence process. This means you need to be in ethical good-standing, (e.g. Wikimedia behaviour, social behaviour, financial behaviour, legal behaviour, etc.).
- Applicants must follow the Universal Code of Conduct and Friendly Space Policies.
- Does your proposal involve direct contact with children or youth? You need to outline the following:
- Related international and local laws, and provide documentation of the local laws in the annex.
- How you aim to engage young people safely.
- All vetting and training adults working with young people have undergone.
- The protocols to protect physical and psychological safety of young people.
Additional note: We may recommend applying for micro-funding in your local community.

editProposals are reviewed monthly between the 15th and the last day of each month.
Complete and submit your application by the 15th.
What report to send?
editWhen your Movement Strategy Implementation Grant is complete, you will need to send a report. Send the report within 30 days after you complete the project.
- Go to your application page on Meta-Wiki.
- Click Share your results on the right side of the page.
- Complete the report in your preferred language.
In the report, you will be asked to:
- Provide a link to the draft implementation plan document or page.
- Describe what activities supported the plan.
- Describe how and where you have communicated your plan to relevant communities.
- Report on how you spent the funds.
