User:C933103/Draft:Community Wishlist Survey 2020/Wikisource/Option to rotate text orientation

  • Problem: Some languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) were historically written in multiple directions. Sometimes there are directional wordings in text that requires specific matching text direction in transcription to understand. Some might also prefer reading the text in original direction instead of modern direction.
  • Who would benefit: people reading historical documents in relevant languages.
  • Proposed solution:
  • Support the display of Chinese/Korean/Japanese text in non-default direction.
    • There could be a default orientation setting for each document
    • And then user can also change the setting as they like
    • It will also benefit other non-wikisource wiki projects that are written in those languages, allowing users to read those wikis in the way they like
