Motto | Promoting Wikimedia projects in Tyap and sister Nenzit languages • Shyia̱ yaa̱son nta̱m Wukimedia ma̱ng Tyap mbeang á̱kum lilyem Nienzi̱t ka |
Tyap Wikimedians User Group is a user group dedicated to promoting Wikimedia projects in Nenzit (Central Plateau) languages, with Tyap language as a role model. Tyap is a Nigerian language spoken in the central part of the country, with over 250,000 native speakers and unaccounted number of L2 and L3 speakers and when considered one and same with Jju (a close mutually intelligible language with a separate ISO Code), would have close to a million L1 speakers.
The Tyapic lects with two ISO codes kcg and kaj are a group of mutually intelligible dialects spoken in Central Nigeria. The largest of these lects is Jju (ISO: kaj), spoken by more than 300,000 people (as of 1988); and Tyap (ISO: kcg), spoken by more than 130,000 (as of 1993) indigenous speakers. The core Tyap dialects include: Fantswam, Gworok, Sholyio, Takad, Tyap (proper; Mabatado or Mabarado), Tyecharak, and Tyuku. Jju's intelligibility with each Tyap dialect vary. The average being above 80% (see Comparison between Tyap dialects). With fellow Nenzit languages, Tyap is 72% intelligible with Izere and 66% with Rigwe.
The group's membership is open to all interested individuals.
Objectives

- To organize in-person events and online edit-a-thons (edit-a-thons, photowalks, educational outreaches) to grow the numbers of articles in Tyap language and Tyap editors in Wikimedia projects
- Create more awareness on Wikimedia projects across our region

- In-person and online meeting events to gather together its members and prospective members to tutor and share ideas on editing and give support to those in need.
- Edit-a-thons to improve and create new articles in Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Translatewiki, MetaWiki and others, and in the process improve on their editing skills.
- Editing contests to increase the momentum of article creation in Tyap by providing a morale boost in the form of prizes for winners and runner-ups, as well as encourage prospective members to join.
- Photographic and audio recording contests and trips to enable users snapshot and upload images and short audio recordings on Wikimedia Commons for general Wikimedia project usage.
