The Wikipedia Library/1Lib1Ref/Connect/2017 events

We will be holding a meeting on Wednesday, February 1st, at the General and Humanities Library, where a group of librarians will add citations to Wikipedia articles dealing with our University. This event is linked to the 225th anniversary of the foundation of the University of La Laguna.
National library of the Netherlands (KB) edit
OlafJanssen, the GLAMwiki coordinator of the KB
- created a 1Lib1Ref manual & call-to-action in Dutch (pdf) for librarians (done)
- disseminated it to his 400+ direct colleagues in the KB (done)
- disseminateed the manual & call-to-action via the platform for Dutch public libraries, asking them to disseminate it further in their networks (done, see here)
- will engage the communications & social media teams of the KB to help spread the message (in progress)
- is looking to host a 1Lib1Ref working lunch in the KB (between 17 Jan - 3 Feb)
University Libraries, Virginia Tech edit
We will be holding an all-day drop-in event on Friday, February 3rd at Newman Library at Virginia Tech where we will encourage librarians and the public to come in and add citations to Wikipedia articles. We will generate a list of articles that need citations around a set of themes in which Virginia Tech Libraries specializes (Virginia history, culinary history, the Civil War, women in architecture) as a starting point for editors, but will also encourage people to use the Citation Hunt tool or to look at articles in their own specialties. McKeldin Library, University of Maryland edit
The University of Maryland College of Information Studies and UMD Libraries' Emerging Technology Discussion Group will co-sponsor a #1lib1ref event on January 31st from 11:00-12:30. Following an introduction to Wikipedia and the goals of the #1lib1ref campaign, attendees from the iSchool and library communities will have the opportunity to add citations to Wikipedia articles. We plan to use the Citation Hunt tool to help attendees find articles requiring additional citations but will also encourage people to seek out additional opportunities to add citations.
Harvard Library, Harvard University edit
The Research, Teaching & Learning standing committee of the Harvard Library is hosting two edit-a-thons for Library staff: January 18 1 - 2:30pm and January 27 10:30am - noon. Staff can get trained on editing Wikipedia, get help finding citations to add, or just hang out with colleagues and add citations using Citation Hunt. We are also encouraging staff to edit on their own, and hope to add at least 50 citations over the course of the campaign.
Université Bordeaux Montaigne, France edit
The academic libraries of the university will host a coffee-hour on 27th of January during the afternoon. All staff and librarians of the university and other universities of the city have been invited. Attendees will learn how to add a reference to an article and using citation hunt tool will be encouraged to make their first edits.
Dalhousie Libraries, Dalhousie University edit
Dalhousie Libraries is hosting a Wikipedia edit-a-thon for Reference Librarians and staff on Tuesday, January 24th from 12:00-1:30pm. There will be a wikipedia training session and a discussion of how Wikipedia can be applied to libraries and information studies.
Thompson Library, The Ohio State University edit
OSU's Wikipedia Connection will be hosting a brown bag session on January 31st from 12:00 to 1:00 for librarians and library staff. In this brief training session, participants will learn the basics of Wikipedia editing and discuss the ways in which Wikipedia can be integrated into information literacy instruction.
University of Winnipeg Library, University of Winnipeg edit
The University of Winnipeg Library is hosting a Wikipedia edit-a-thon for interested library staff on Wednesday, January 25th from 10:00 to 1:00pm in the Pitcairn Commons.
Vanderbilt University, Jean and Alexander Heard Library edit
Vanderbilt Library is hosting drop-in hours for interested staff and librarians on Fridays from January 20 to February 3 from 9:30 to 10:30am in Special Collections. Help editing Wikipedia and help hunting citations will be available. We also encourage staff to edit on their own.
University of North Texas Libraries, Willis Library edit
The UNT Libraries is hosting a drop-in session for librarians and staff from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Willis Library, Rm 136. We encourage librarians to come and add citations, especially to articles related to our library collections or their own areas of expertise. We'll offer help in hunting and adding citations and discuss ways to utilize open resources in teaching and research.
John T. Richardson Library, DePaul University edit
DePaul University Library is holding a #1Lib1Ref event for library staff on January 27, 2017. Over snacks and drinks, we will be focusing on adding references. There will be some emphasis on editing to improve underrepresented topics.
Central Library, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki edit
The Library & Information Center of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is hosting a Wikipedia edit-a-thon for librarians and student librarians on February 1st, 2017. Librarians of the university and other libraries of the city have been invited and also the students of the Department of Library Science and Information Systems of ATEI Thessaloniki. There will be a training session and hands on practice and editathon.
Baker-Berry Library, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, USA edit
The Dartmouth College Library is hosting a #1Lib1Ref coffee hour on Tuesday, January 31, from 8:30-10am. Everyone on campus is welcome to stop in and learn how to create a Wikipedia account and add a citation.
Librarians from Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire edit
On January 17, Wikimedia Community User Group of Côte d'Ivoire (WCUG-CI) held a workshop with 7 librarians at its headquarters in Abidjan. This workshop aimed at making them knowledgeable of the gender gap on Wikipedia and more importantly, teaching them how to bridge it. For the Ivorian librarians gathered at this workshop, the benefit was twofold: understanding deeper the concept of Wikipedia and, more importantly, knowing how to edit its contents related to Ivorian women.

Zagreb City Libraries, Croatia edit
On January 18, Zagreb City Libraries organized an open lecture on Wikipedia and The Wikipedia Library/1Lib1Ref campaign for reference librarians working in Zagreb City Libraries. The lecture was a part of a life-long learning program for reference librarians called Info Wednesday.
