Questionnaire
editContributors
edit- Wikimedia Statistics can be difficult to interpret. What is your impression, how many steady contributors do you have?
I'd say about 5, then some others with minor edits. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Are your contributors mostly native speakers?
Yes, even if their level can vary since our language is not taught in schools --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Where do your contributors live (regions/country)?
They are mostly from different parts of Friuli, in north-east Italy. But for example I live for a big part of the year elsewhere in Italy, and there are probably some contributors from other countries --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- How common is it that your contributors meet in real life?
No meetings so far --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Other Wikipedias
edit- Do you have special contacts with another Wikipedias (maybe in related languages)?
I have contacts with a couple of people from Italian and Catalan wikipedia. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Do you translate a lot from other Wikipedias? Which ones?
I translate a lot from Catalan Wikipedia, since I find their articles complete but not too long; then also Italian and English, maybe others as reference. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Organization and support
edit- Is there a Wikimedia chapter in your country? How does your language relate to it?
There is a Wikimedia chapter in Italy, but I don't see a lot of support coming from them. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Are there work groups in other organizations about Wikipedia?
Not as far as I know --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Your Wikipedia and the linguistic community
edit- Is there a language institution for your language, like an Academy, or a club of people interested in your language? Do you have contact with them?
Yes, there is one, but there aren't any contacts at the moment. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Who (else) supports you?
Nobody, although we have a friendship with a monthly magazine in our language --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- What does the public outreach for your edition look like? Do you have flyers, give lectures, trainings etc.?
We didn't really make advertisement or such a thing, since the community is quite small. We had reviews on local newspapers, though, and also on a local radio. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Do you get feedback from readers?
Yes, we sometimes get feedback on discussion pages and in the village pump, not only comments, but proposals and critics too; we try to answer to everybody. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- What other encyclopedias exist in your language?
There aren't any. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Content
edit- Does your edition concentrates on certain topics, like your region and language, or Latin Wikipedia on Roman history and Christianity?
We try to balance local topics and general topics; local topics are probably more interesting, but also more demanding, since there isn't much in the Internet and you have to do some research on books and essays. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Did your edition enjoy text donations, for example from older encyclopedias?
No, there isn't lot of text available online in our language. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Language
edit- Is there a generally accepted norm about your language (spelling, dictionary, pronunciation)?
Yes, there is a standard form, used in the official documents; however it is not widely known since it's not taught in schools; there are also different spellings, which are seldom used though. The standard form doesn't imply a pronunciation, everybody is free to use local pronounce. It is worth a note that there is always understability among different variants of Friulian. --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- How do you deal with different spellings, dialects etc. (like B.E. lift and A.E. elevator)?
I love my dialect, but keeping different variants in a single Wikipedia is a tough job, especially when the community is small. Therefore, we use the official standard for the text of the articles; for the moment we try to adapt to standard ortography all contributions, while leaving local words if they are comprehensible. We allow local dialects for things like toponyms --Klenje 18:38, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
