Wikipedia is Wikipédia in French, not Wikipédie, though encyclopædia is encyclopédie. Just check in the French site. In the same way, in German, Wikipedia is used, not Vikipädia ; see in the German site. Vincent Ramos 05:27, 19 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- Because the first ones who started the french wikipedia did not care giving another name, and thought that Wikipedia was a good one. This is also my position. I would prefer that all wikipedias use the same name entirely, but little differences are acceptable, as long as the unity is recognised. Curry also raised that point many months ago. And I don't think changing the name of a product after 2 years is a good idea. Ant
- I didn't mean that French « Wikipédia » wasn't a good name ; I just emphatized the fact that « Wikipédie » does simply not exist. By the way, I like this -ia final. Vincent Ramos 17:37, 21 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- Do you think that somehow, we should "take" the name as well to avoid further problems ? I mean domaine name fr.wikipedie.org ? Anthere
- Since wikipedie already exists (without an accute accent : cf. the Czech Wikipedia), I don't think so. Vincent Ramos 21:53, 21 Sep 2003 (UTC)
So what is the deal here? Should the main name be changed or not.
- There is no use changing the French name. Vincent Ramos 22:54, 17 Oct 2003 (UTC)
I only see two reasons for changing it: 1) so that you can distinguish it from the English one and not have to say *Language* Wikipedia everywhere 2) because the local language does not have the characters in the local alphabet. Neither is particularly grave, but a standard should probably be established. ¬ Dori 23:59, 16 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- Wikipédia has been used for a long time now by French people. Why should we change it ? Vincent Ramos 22:54, 17 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- I am not saying it should be changed. I am just asking if there is a policy allowing, suggesting, etc the change from the English one. ¬ Dori 02:10, 18 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- Sorry, I was missing the point; er... I do not know. I just think everyone wants to write down and pronounce this name so that it does not look too weird. Vincent Ramos 23:13, 18 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Hey, isn't this page redundant with Wikipedia raster name? Should we get rid of it?
- No, it's not. This page has logos, the other page just has the name of the encyclopedia.
