Talk:Wikimedia Blog/Drafts/HTTPS by default for logged in users

Not default
editJust to be clear, log-in by HTTPS is not the default, it is the mandatory process on the majority of projects for the majority of editors. "Default" suggests that there is an option to log in without using HTTPS, and there is no plan to make that available to the majority of users. Please let's not use that term in this context; it's not default, it's required. Risker (talk) 05:17, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Unless I'm mistaken, there is an option to log-in without using HTTPS, as described in the "Disabling" section of this very post. As I read it, the HTTPS log-in is enabled by default, and if one wants to disable it, for whatever reason (including those reasons listed in the "Disabling" section), one can follow the instructions under "Disabling" and subsequent logins won't be HTTPS. It would seem that in this context, "default" is the proper word choice. --Schaea (talk) 06:48, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- You're mistaken. The "disabling" only applies to browsing and editing, it does not apply to subsequent log-ins. Risker (talk) 08:10, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ah, thank you for clarifying that for me. Perhaps this could be explained better in the article? It just talks about "turning off HTTPS" which, to me at least, would seem to encompass all aspects of the HTTPS, not just browsing and editing. --Schaea (talk) 08:39, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
