Volunteer developers edit

Thank you for writing this piece.

I want to be clear with how we're phrasing things regarding who writes MediaWiki code. A huge chunk of MediaWiki has been written by volunteers outside the Foundation, and while the Foundation is responsible for MediaWiki, this would not be possible without the volunteers - coding, testing, and more. Many of the maintainers of MediaWiki and its extensions -- including stuff we deploy onto Wikimedia sites -- are outside the Foundation.

One more quibble: "as new software is layered on top of the existing software stack" implies that we're talking about entirely new applications, rather than upgrades adding/modifying code in existing applications.

Can you go ahead and make your edits directly in the document so it reflects your concerns for accuracy? Thanks! Matthew (WMF) (talk) 15:03, 2 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I tried this edit, but not sure if that addresses your concern Sharihareswara (WMF)? Matthew (WMF) (talk) 15:40, 2 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Matthew (WMF). I adjusted the language in that paragraph so I'm now all right with how we talk about volunteers in this post. Thank you. Sharihareswara (WMF) (talk) 19:01, 2 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
