Talk:WikiConference India 2016/Submissions/Education Programs in India
Welcoming collaboration and input!
editI am soliciting input from community members with education experience to help set the context for this panel and workshop. Please feel free to list users on the proposal page, or help me refine the idea here on the discussion page. Tighe Flanagan (WMF) (talk) 18:58, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
Modifying session
editBased on the proposed Education Track, I am modifying this session to follow the various education sessions, and offer a way to identify some next steps as an education community and reflect on the learnings of the day. Since there are already a number of presentations on individual cases, I am changing the panel format to a short presentation with a discussion/workshop to follow. Original abstract (copied from content page):
What is the state of Education Program activities in India? Where are we seeing success? Where have we seen failures? What are the challenges in starting, growing and scaling a successful program that involves students in the Wikimedia projects? For this panel discussion, I would like to have community members who have experience in this give a brief overview of their experience to provide proper context for the state of Wikipedia Education Programs. I would like to be able to have time for a discussion where we can think about some particular challenges so we can address them going forward. Challenges may include establishing relationships with universities or "pitching" the mutual benefit of a program to stakeholders, setting clear goals and milestones in program planning, having sufficient volunteer support, among others. We can also identify opportunities that may resonate particularly for growing local language wikis and documenting local history and heritage.
