Bidding for the cities for hosting WikiConference India 2016 consists of two rounds. The first round will be a simple round to encourage participation. The aim of the first round is to confirm the local community support and strength. All the cities are expected to participate in the first round of bidding criteria. The first 5 qualifying cities of the first round would be eligible to participate in the second and final round of bidding with an elaborate plan.

First Round Bidding Criteria

  • City and proposed venue. This city should have at least a domestic airport.
  • Wikimedia signatures of active Wikimedia projects editors who commit to be involved in organizing this in your city
  • Link to local village pump where the bid has been approved with community consensus
  • Proposed overall budget to conduct an event with 500 registered participants (including the accommodation cost for 100 scholarship recipients for 3 days).
  • Prior experience conducting similar event(s)

  • Maybe we should also make it a point to ensure that atleast one local entity, a non profit, or a university, or an institution, or a GLAM entity, or a govt body is willing to partner with us? I know it would be difficult, but if it goes thru, it would make things go faster. ----Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:26, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
  • This can be a criterion for second and final round of bidding. We just don't want to make too many communities facing the burden of going through an elaborate preparation initially.--Ravi (talk) 11:34, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
  • For the first round of bidding, this looks like a good set of criteria. Yohannvt (talk) 04:32, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Instead of having a domestic airport as the selection criteria, the criteria should rather be, "Good Connectivity by Air / Rail / Road". A city that might have a domestic airport may not necessarily be better connected. Not every participant will be flying in. Prabodh1987 (talk) 17:36, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
