Interesting! What is the timeline for this work? Are there any Malawian Wikimedians involved? Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 23:13, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comments, Asaf! The call for applications has gone out via various means to communities in both Malawi and Ethiopia. Notices were placed on talk pages of all those who worked on Malawi or Ethiopia related material and worked on either the Chichewa or Amharic Wikipedias. The call was also sent out through the Creative Commons Africa network and via several other networks, notably arts and museums institutes as well as the Media Institute for Development and other pan-African bodies. The deadline is now passed, and we are about to go through the selection process. I will put the full timeline onto this project page once it has been adjusted for the delays due to other Activating Africa projects coming on line and boosting the possibilities around this project.
- Although one person will be employed for a year in each country to activate GLAM, media and education organisations, it is expected that part of their work will draw together current Wikimedians and Wikipedians in their country, hopefully this will move them closer to a more formal community and user group. I will keep you all posted on the outcomes, closer to the time. If there are any Malawian or Ethiopian Wikipedians that we failed to get in contact with, then please do not hesitate to contact me. - I don't know any Ethiopian or Malawian Wikimedians. Do you? I understand there is a paid position, but my question was whether any local existing Wikimedians are involved at all, and I still don't know the answer to that. Thanks! Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 02:10, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
